NFL Week 12 Predictions: Lions Will Ruin Packers' Dream of a Perfect Season

Nicholas GossNov 24, 2011

The Green Bay Packers will be dominated by a team much more physical than them in the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving and will have their hopes of an undefeated season destroyed.

The Lions defensive line will get to Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and hit him at every opportunity. Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh will rough up Rodgers every chance he can and could even try to knock him out of the game.

Suh has been very physical with quarterbacks in his brief career and often gets flagged for unnecessary roughness penalties.

You can bet Suh will take one of these penalties if he can in the first quarter just to throw Rodgers off of his game.

The Lions defense has been solid all season. They have 27 sacks—which is four off the league lead—and they are tied for second in the NFL with 15 interceptions.

Rodgers does not have much of a running game, so he will have to throw a ton. The Lions found a balance to their offense last week with a breakout game from running back Kevin Smith in a huge victory against the Carolina Panthers.

Smith rushed for 140 yards and also racked up 61 receiving yards with three total touchdowns. Smith will allow Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford to use play-action more effectively against a talented Packers secondary.

Stafford tossed five touchdown passes last week and looked good after he suffered an injury the week before against the Chicago Bears.

The Lions have not been good in a long time and will want to give their fans who have remained quite loyal something to be thankful on Thanksgiving by earning a huge win.

A win for the Lions combined with a Bears loss would give them the edge in the Wild Card playoff race, so you know that Detroit will be pumped for this game.

This is a huge chance for them to make a major statement against a division rival, at home and on Thanksgiving.

The Lions will rough up the Packers on Thursday and will throw a ton against a Green Bay defense that has given up a lot of yards through the air.

Detroit will ruin the Packers' dreams of a perfect season and take a valuable step toward the playoffs.
