WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BECOME A PGA TOUR PLAYER

I know this sound crazy, but I was with some guys who have been trying to make their way out on tour over the past 10 years and I asked them why they had such a hard time finding their way to become a PGA Tour Player. I was shocked by what they told me but after listening I had to agree. So, sit back and read this with an open mind and see if this makes sense to you.

They asked me what I thought it took to make it on the PGA Tour and I said talent, ability to score and handle the pressure. They all said that sounded like good answers but not the right answers. They told me you needed three things to get your chance to actually make it out on Tour. I was like I just gave you three great things and they said the three things are as follows; Talent, money and more money! I said so your telling me you can buy your way on Tour and they said no. However, if you have the talent but not finances for trainers, swing coaches, and someone who will back you with their money so you can pay the bills and not have to worry about loosing your wife, family and even the roof over your head you will most likely will never make it. They said whether it is family money or some private business backing you it is almost impossible to handle the pressure of not being able to provide for your family and everyone knows that golf is at least 85% mental. I said that made since. I mean there are thousands of scratch golfers out there and if all they had to do was work on their game everyday and not worry about loosing so much those same guys who do not get major sponsorship could be living the dream.

We all know many stories of young golfers who certain big name companies think they are going to be great and just give them whatever they need and more money than some golfers who are already on the Tour. I mean I know one guy right now that I would put against anybody on the top 125 and he could beat them. However, he is selling cars because he cannot afford to stop paying bills and he cannot take a chance at loosing what money he has saved up for his kids college or a new home to gamble at Q-School. Yes, he might just jump out and get his card but when you play with that type of pressure it makes it very hard to focus in the right way.

Bottom line! If you have talent, money and more money you can find your way but without the money a lot of great golfers are falling to the wayside.
