Tim Tebow and the Greatest QBs to Ever Play for the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators have a rich history when it comes to college football. They have won three National Championships and have also had three Heisman Trophy winners at the quarterback position.

The Gators have been one of the best football programs in the nation, and they are not showing any signs of slowing down. Here is a look at some of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play for the Gators.

Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow is arguably the greatest college football player ever. He re-wrote many of the SEC record books while he was a Gator. Tebow had a 35-6 record and won the 2007 Heisman Trophy.

Tebow was also apart of two National Championship-winning teams. He was the face of the Gators and will be forever loved by the Gators faithful.

Danny Wuerffel

Danny Wuerffel is one of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history. He compiled a 45-6 record and won the 1996 Heisman Trophy.

Wuerffel had 114 touchdowns and he threw for over 10,000 yards while he was a Gator. He also helped the Gators defeat their rival, Florida State, in the 1997 National Championship and give them their first ever title. 

Steve Spurrier

Steve Spurrier was the starting quarterback for the Gators from 1964-1966. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1966 and was selected to be an All-American in his junior year.

Spurrier was brought back in 1989 to be the head coach of the Gators. He led the Gators to their first ever National Championship in 1996 and won six SEC Championships as the Gators head coach.

Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson was the Gators quarterback from 1996-1999. He holds the SEC record for most touchdowns in one game, with seven.

Johnson led the Gators to the Citrus Bowl in 1997 and the Orange Bowl in 1998. Johnson had a solid NFL career with many teams.

Rex Grossman

5 of 6

Rex Grossman had a solid career as a Gator. He threw for 9,164 yards and 77 career touchdowns. Rex was a consensus first-team All-American and led the Gators to a victory in the Orange Bowl in 2002.

Rex was drafted in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He has found success in the NFL with multiple teams. 

Chris Leak

6 of 6

Chris Leak was the starting quarterback for the Gators from 2003-2006. He had 88 career touchdowns and threw for 11,213 yards. 

Chris Leak led the Gators to a National Championship in 2007. He was nominated as the BCS National Championship MVP and had a 37-14 career record.
