UFC 92 Jackson vs. Silva One Of The Biggest Feuds In MMA

Denis KingDec 19, 2008

While there is no doubt that the fight between Forrest Griffin and Rashard Evans is the big match up at UFC 92, people may not realize that the real story of the night is an on-going feud between Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Wanderlei "The Ax Murderer" Silva.

Little do the younger UFC fans know that Quinton Jackson and Wanderlei Silva not only hate each other, but also have fought twice before in Pride. Unfortunately, to the discontent of many Rampage, fans Silva has been able to put Rampage away both times with one of his most dangerous weapons…his knees.

Now let’s not beat around the bush—Silva is getting old. It looks like the “Ax Murderer” isn’t the same fighter he was back in Pride and the proof of that lies in his 3 out of 4 losses in the UFC, two ending in KO. With his victory over Keith Jardine it looks like Silva is back but does he really have what it takes to put the hungry Jackson out for a third time?

Hey let’s not forget about Jackson. The man has had a ruthless year with losing his title to Forrest to being in a high speed chase with the police being put in a mental institution due to Jackson not sleeping for four days and only drinking energy drinks and water.

If that’s not enough, Jackson also fired his long time trainer/manager Ibarra after his loss to Forrest Griffin. How much effect will this have on the fight? In my mind a big one!

However, all these events may very well help Jackson beat Silva. With new management Jackson must now prove he has what it takes to remain one of the top dogs in MMA. In my mind, this is exactly the fire Jackson needs to put Silva away, but what else is going to help Jackson is the fact that he now knows Silva’s style well and it will be difficult for Silva to lay out the same game plan that had beaten the old Rampage Jackson.

Look no doubt Silva and his coaches have a great game plan come UFC 92, but how can Silva really know what Rampage to get ready for?

With obvious strike power Jackson could always throw a punch, but what surprises does Jackson have in store for Silva come UFC 92?

I’m not throwing Silva out of the competition, he is still one of the best in MMA today. His experience and respect is almost unparalleled and he is a hero to all MMA fans around the world. Putting Silva away is a big challenge reserved only for the best.

Nevertheless Jackson has the skills and most importantly the desire to do so come UFC 92.

One thing is certain when the dust settles and the smoke clears only one man can go on to prove he can still hang with the big boys in MMA and this could very well end up in an unplanned retirement for Silva or another GTA style high speed chase. One word of advice come UFC 92, if Silva wins, look both ways before crossing the road America.
