Phoenix Suns: Former All-Star Ceballos Suffers Minor Heart Attacks
Cedric Ceballos was hospitalized for suffering a series of minor heart attacks on Sunday. The news put a pall on all our days, especially those that remember Ceballos as an affable giant who defied gravity.
Anytime you see a former athlete's name on the crawl, you know it's not going to be good. Ceballos' tale is one of a former star and a health scare that was hopefully caught early.
The Arizona Republic reports by way of a tweet from Paul Coro that the former Phoenix Suns player was hospitalized for a series of heart attacks.
Ceballos then released a statement asking for thought and prayers as he continues to get better following the frightening episode.
"I feel blessed and very fortunate to be here today and to have made the decision to go to the hospital and get my symptoms checked out late last night. I ask everyone to keep me in your prayers as I make my journey back to good health. Thank you everyone who has called and is concerned. While I want to respond and speak to everyone, I cannot right now, but will be in touch very soon. God bless you.
"
Ceballos was a class act that I recall fondly for what he was as a Los Angeles Lakers player and despairingly when he played for the rival Suns.
I do have to admit that even when he suited up for the purple and orange in the early 1990s, I still managed to smile or marvel at his ability to score. I always wondered how he would fare as a Laker, and then that wish was granted.
He joined a Lakers squad that featured Nick the Quick and Eddie Jones in a mini-Showtime. Sure they didn't win anything, but they sure were fun to watch.
I remember Ceballos fondly as a player and sincerely hope for his quick and speedy recovery.
