NHL Winter Classic 2012: Philadelphia Flyers Design Ugly Jersey for 1 Game
With the unveiling of their 2012 Winter Classic jerseys Monday, the excitement over the new style made it seem like they would be great.
They arenโt.
Through the storied history of the franchise, they have never used this color combination. While I give the designer credit for making them look old-school, itโs an old school the Philadelphia Flyers didnโt attend.

It feels like faux history to me.
Not once have the Flyers had black on their shoulders in their entire history. Too much black with all that orange makes this jersey feel like a Halloween custom gone wrong.
When the Flyers played the Boston Bruins in the Winter Classic two years ago, the team used its original white jersey from the 1970s.
They used that jersey because it represented history.
It feels like the designers of the new look are trying to make the Flyers look older than the team actually is. They are acting as if the team was part of the original six with the ties around the neck and the aged feel.
For a team with suck a rich tradition of amazing jerseys, itโs amazing they didnโt climb into the vaults and bring out one of the more recent jerseys.
Since the arrival of the white Winter Classic jersey two years ago, the team has scrapped their black third jerseys that were one of the coolest in the NHL.
I would have rather seen the team bring back the black Flyers jersey instead of designing a whole new style for a one-game event.
