BCS Rankings: 5 Teams Most Likely to Face LSU in National Title Game

One thing you have to love about college football is its unpredictability. Last week, four teams were likely contenders for the national title game.

It all changed drastically in Week 12. when No. 4 Oregon and No. 5 Oklahoma lost to lower-ranked teams. What was even more surprising was No. 2 Oklahoma State losing to an unranked team, although they only dropped down two spots in Week 13 rankings. 

Some of these ranked teams have one or two games left.

LSU is already certain to play in the national title game.

Which four teams have the most likely shot at the national title game against LSU?

Stanford

Right now, Stanford is ranked No. 6 with a 10-1 record. Their only loss this season was by double digits to now-No. 10 Oregon. Playing in the Pac-12, their schedule shows them playing against mediocre teams and blowing them out. They have played against three ranked teams and lost against one, although two of those ranked teams were in the twenties or lower.

They face No. 22 Notre Dame next week, and they are the better team in all aspects of the field compared to the Fighting Irish. They will likely finish out the season 11-1. Playing against a ranked team in the last game will probably help them move up a few spots.

Stanford has a close shot at the national title game.

Oklahoma State

Before entering the game versus Iowa State, Oklahoma State was undefeated. Then they lost in overtime against an unranked team. Must have been a perfect day to be an Iowa State fan. Not an OSU one, though.

They had the best shot at the national title game if they had stayed undefeated. They blew that certainty, but not all hope is lost. They play against No. 9 Oklahoma in their last game.

If they can beat Oklahoma and prove to be the better football team, they will have a good shot at the BCS title game. They have to play strong and finish strong.

Hopefully playing in front of their home crowd will give them all the momentum they need. 

Arkansas

The only loss the Razorbacks suffered this season was against No. 3 Alabama, which blew them out by double digits. They went on to beat No. 14 Texas A&M and No. 15 Auburn. Playing three straight games against ranked teams and winning two out of three is not a bad feat.

It's only Arkansas' luck that they have to end up visiting No. 1 LSU in their last game of the season. It's going to be a strong SEC showdown. While it won't have the excitement as the LSU-Alabama game, it will still carry the importance.

Arkansas has a shot at the BCS title game. If they beat LSU, that shot will be reality. 

Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech is on a six-game winning streak since their loss against No. 13 Clemson. They've played some strong teams, but most were mediocre at best. The Hokies has been crawling their way back up to the top after that loss and sit at No. 5 in the BCS rankings.

Their last game will be against Virginia, a most likely win for the Hokies. They still have a shot at the national title game, especially if those above them lose. While the shot is almost unlikely, it's a chance that still exists for this team.

Didn't Week 12 show how unpredictable college football is? Anything can happen.

Alabama

After the loss against LSU a few weeks ago, it's not surprising to see the Crimson Tide reclaiming their spot at No. 2. Most people want to see a rematch of the LSU-Alabama game, especially in the national title game. They are a strong defensive team and have attacked their opponents relentlessly. They lost to LSU by a field goal, a game they would have won if their kicker had made his other field goal attempts.

The chance is very strong for Alabama. The Crimson Tide face No. 24 Auburn in their last game of the season. If they win, it is a great chance that we'll be seeing Alabama face LSU in the BCS title game.

However, as this season has already shown, anything goes.
