WWE Breaking News: Sin Cara Ruptures Patella Tendon, out 6 to 9 Months

T. SchaeferNov 20, 2011

Some guys just can't catch a break.

At WWE Survivor Series, Sin Cara ruptured his Patella Tendon during the Team Barrett vs. Team Orton matchup. As a result, WWE Insider noted on Twitter that the Sin Cara will out for six to nine months, following surgery.

The injury came about as the match devolved into chaos in a scene where Team Orton gained the upper-hand. Kofi Kingston and Cara did synchronous suicide dives to the outside. Sin Cara appeared to land a little awkwardly. He went down and was heavily clutching his leg.

The trainers came out as the match stopped while the teams regrouped. After a while, the match resumed though the pacing did feel a bit odd. The injury was announced later in the broadcast.

To be honest, I didn't think it was real at first due to how Sin Cara was originally written off from the WWE for a while. During the Money In The Bank pay-per-view, Cara took a nasty looking powerbomb from Sheamus through a ladder. Cara sold the kayfabe injury magnificently right down to twitching his arms as if he had nerve damage. It was later revealed that this for Wellness Policy Violation.

While the injury further depletes the WWE's talent pool, it may not be as bad as some think. Christian is due to return from his ankle sprain relatively soon and the debut of Epico as part of Hunico's developing stable keeps the Lucha influence of the Blue Brand at an acceptable level.

It seems a given the WWE was planning to continue the Hunico/Sin Cara feud for a while with possibilities for a match at TLC next month, but that's obviously shelved.

It should also be noted that Sin Cara (real name Luis Alvirde) has had some knee issues before, but nothing that resulted in any real loss of time in the ring. How the WWE compensates remains to be seen, but it is safe to say we won't be seeing the Sin Cara character on TV any time soon. More's the pity.
