Bengals QB Palmer Deciding on Surgery or Not
It appears that quarterback Carson Palmer is getting close to deciding if he is going to go ahead and have the dreaded โTommy Johnโ surgery to repair his throwing elbow. The Cincinnati Enquirer reported today that Palmer hopes to regain almost 100 percent of his throwing strength by next week.
The results of his practice sessions under those full-strength conditions will determine his next course of action. โThere is somewhat of a timeline (to decide on surgery),โ Palmer told the newspaper. โI donโt want to wait too long. Within the next couple weeks, Iโll know.
โI donโt want to wait until April, May and miss out on whatโs going to be going on. Within the next couple weeks, we should know. Iโll have another MRI, and weโll check it out.โ The injury that has kept Palmer out of just four games this season is described as a frayed ligament in his right throwing elbow.

โI could tell in the first quarter of the Dallas game that something wasnโt right,โ Palmer said. โIโve been throwing a football since I was four. When something doesnโt feel right, you know something unusual is going on in your arm. I knew it right away.โ
Palmer said most doctors heโs consulted have advised against surgery.
โI was so leery to do the surgery because the feedback I got back was so negative because of the process of the rehab, the timing of the rehab and the success rate of the rehab,โ Palmer said. โSo thatโs why Iโve been real leery of having to do it, and hopefully I donโt have to do it.
โIf weโre going to gamble, itโd be on the surgery. The last thing Iโd want to do is wait too long and have to have the surgery three months from now.โ
