2012 NFL Draft: 7 Prospects That Have Boosted Their Stocks
After one of the most exciting college football weekends in recent memory, seven prospects had great performances and continue to impress NFL scouts.
Players like Robert Griffin III continue to make noise in the college football realms and is putting up quite the case for becoming a great NFL quarterback.
But the Baylor Bear wasn’t the only player that had a great performance over the weekend, as a couple of players that hardly get any attention had fabulous days as well.
It was an amazing weekend of college football action that saw four of the Top Seven teams go down, and these were the prospects that boosted their stock over the weekend.
RGIII
1 of 7There wasn’t a performance over the weekend that was more impressive than Robert Griffin III’s.
RGIII had a miraculous performance highlighted by 479 yards passing, 72 yards rushing and four touchdowns with no interceptions.
It doesn’t get a whole lot better than that, and to top that all off, he gave his team it’s first-ever victory over the Oklahoma Sooners.
RGIII is different from most dual-threat quarterbacks because of his efficiency in the pocket. He’s proved time and time again this year that he is accurate and throws pin-point strikes to his receivers down the field.
RGIII is really starting to turn some heads at the next level, and his stock is steadily increasing.
Kendall Wright
2 of 7I can’t praise RGIII without praising his partner in crime, Kendall Wright. Wright has benefited from great quarterback play this year, but this receiver’s not too shabby.
He’s provided Griffin with a deep threat, and don’t think NFL scouts aren’t looking at him and thinking he could provide the same quality to their team.
In the victory over Oklahoma, Wright had eight receptions for 208 yards and a touchdown. Quite an impressive feat, I’d say.
Trent Richardson
3 of 7Trent Richardson had yet another great day rushing the football against the Georgia Southern Eagles with 175 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
More importantly, Richardson grabbed his 20th rushing touchdown of the year to set the Alabama single-season record, a record held by previous NFL All-Pro Shaun Alexander.
Alexander’s career with the Seattle Seahawks was an impressive one, and I expect the same for Richardson.
Matt Barkley
4 of 7Matt Barkley has already impressed many NFL scouts, and with another impressive performance Saturday, he continues to climb the ranks.
With the lights shining bright on the road, Barkley had 323 yards passing and four touchdowns with only one interception.
Not bad for a marquee game that pitted a USC Trojan victory over the Oregon Ducks. For whichever team that doesn't get Andrew Luck, Barkley’s not a bad second.
Fletcher Cox
5 of 7I’m going to give some love to the big guy on this slide. Fletcher Cox is not only one of the best defensive linemen in the SEC, but he’s one of the best in the nation.
Cox got the spotlight Saturday with CBS picking up the Arkansas and Mississippi State game, and he showed he has great ball skills as well after he recovered a Tyler Wilson fumble and rumbled down the field.
Now, the big guy didn’t score, but it was still impressive. In all seriousness, Cox had another great game where he gave the Bulldogs dominant play up front once again.
He also had a blocked field goal in the game.
David Wilson
6 of 7What David Wilson lacks in brute strength and size, he makes up for with his tenacity.
Wilson had another solid performance as he rushed the ball for 84 yards against a solid North Carolina Tar Heels defensive front.
I don’t want to hear the argument that Wilson is too small, because I’ve seen guys like Darren Sproles make tremendous impacts at the next level. No, Wilson isn't Sproles, but I still believe teams are giving this guy a good look.
Wilson continues to impress those at the next level, and he just might find himself climbing the ranks on the draft board.
Andrew Luck
7 of 7Let’s be honest, Andrew Luck has faced some of the most unrealistic expectations that I’ve ever seen, and he's done a great job.
I'm sure some of you are getting ready to comment below and say that there's no way that he could have boosted his stock because he was the No. 1-rated prospect.
You're right, but the way he has handled the pressure and been able to still have a great season has really impressed me, so he's on this list.
He’s still in the race for the Heisman, and he’s still producing solid numbers each and every week. Teams aren’t calling it the Luck Sweepstakes just because it has a nice ring to it. This guy is legit.
