UFC 139 Results: Where Shogun Went Wrong

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua entered the Octagon in San Jose California to take on arguably the hardest hitter in all of mixed martial arts, Dan Henderson.

Fast forward: Round 4.

Action began in the fourth frame as it was Henderson who nearly capitalized on a Guillotine Choke.

However, Rua escaped as action returned to their feet.

After pressuring after Henderson, "Shogun" lined up for a huge right uppercut that connected to the center of his opponents face.

"Shogun" began teeing off on Henderson as the fans in San Jose, California rose to their feet.

After a failed take down attempt by Henderson, it was Rua who was successful in the take down as he found himself throwing hammer-fists at Henderson.

When it was time for the fifth and final round, both fighters were exhausted as they walked towards the center of the Octagon to cap off five more minutes of their historical bout.

Once again it was Rua who took Henderson down and remained on top nearly the entire fifth round.

Rua had clearly won the final two rounds but it wasn't good enough to capture the victory.

Throughout the first three rounds it was Henderson who controlled the highly anticipated bout.

In fact, at one point it appeared as if Rua wasn't going to make it out of the third frame as he was being teed off on by Henderson.

"Shogun" failed to come out of the gate with the same aggression he showed in the final two rounds.

Instead, he was the one who received the vicious strikes and uppercuts as his energy was nonexistent.

And, while Rua surprised many with his take down skills, he didn't display an effective game plan or line of defense when it mattered most.

When all was said and done, Rua proved to be the better conditioned fighter but his lack of attack early in the fight ultimately cost him the victory.
