Sidney Crosby: His 10 Worst Moments in Hockey

Eron NoreNov 22, 2011

Chances are if you clicked in to take a look at what this article is about, you are not like me. You probably do not like Sidney Crosby, nor do you have much good to say about the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This topic was presented and I thought, "This is perfect." Seriously.

I mean, after all, we are hitting the holiday season. What better way to give back to the Bleacher Report community of Sidney Crosby haters than to offer up the 10 moments that Crosby would like to forget?

Now to be clear, I am a Penguins fan through and through. I do like and respect Sid. But this time I get to show the other side of things.

Today has to be a really tough day for non-Pens fans. It is alright for you to admit that you were excited to see Sid take the ice last night.

Seeing him score on his first shot had to excite you, no? Or the fact that he looked like he did not miss a beat against the team that derailed his scoring streak last season? Maybe you are not ready to admit that you enjoyed it, I get that.

So if you did not enjoy one of his best moments on the ice, I present to you the chance to get your daily Schadenfreude in the form of reliving some of Sid's less-than-stellar moments in hockey.

While I will never hate him, or have a thousandth of the venom for him that most of you do, I can certainly admit that he is far from perfect. Some of these moments reflect that.

But maybe with this article, it can be the olive branch to the Crosby haters. Maybe you can admit that his work ethic far exceeds the vast majority of NHL players and that, yes, he is a damn fine hockey player.

So in the spirit of shamelessly giving the Crosby haters what they want (actually today, they need), I present to you the 10 worst "moments" of Sidney Crosby's career.

Consider this the Saw series for you Crosby haters. It may be a while before you get anything like this again. Happy Holidays.

10. Brandon Dubinsky

1 of 10

To start things off, we have a seemingly harmless moment, and the New York Rangers Brandon Dubinsky's candid assessment of what went down.

9. "Cindy Crysby"

2 of 10

Yeah, this video clip will be a real hit with those people that say "Cindy Crysby" whines too much.

8. Ankle Injury

3 of 10

Prior to the concussion saga, this cold January night turned out to be the evening that took Sid out of the lineup with his most serious NHL injury to date.

7. Franzen Takes Sid out

4 of 10

Another dark moment for Sid was this injury in Game 7 of the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals. Sid had already had a pretty bleak series against the Detroit Red Wings. This did not make it any look better for him at the time.

6. Kovalchuck Makes Crosby Pay

5 of 10

Here is another rough moment for Sid. He took a penalty against the Atlanta Thrashers and Ilya Kovalchuk had a little something to say to Crosby...

5. Horrible Acting

6 of 10

What would a compilation of Sid's worst moments be without some bad acting? No, not a dive. Actual "acting."

4. Ovie Gets the Best of No. 87

7 of 10

In that last video, Crosby cries out "Ovechkin!" In this video, Ovie gets the best of him. Sure, he might currently be in the worst funk of his career, but on this night, Alexander was king.

3. The Headshot Heard 'Round the World

8 of 10

You might disagree with this being so low on the list, but here we have the shot that started all the hype. The headshot heard 'round the world.

2. Red Wings Defeat the Pens for the Cup

9 of 10

I was in my seat in good old F29 of the Civic Arena for this moment. This was probably the worst moment in any Penguins fans' life.

It was still cool to see the Stanley Cup come out, though. Yeah, I said it.

1. Handshake Snub

10 of 10

So here we have what was arguably Sid's worst moment. A leader should lose with class, but more importantly win with class. It has been debated a million times over, but regardless of the excuses, I do think the onus falls on the winner to be there to extend his hand first.

Next time he lifts the Cup, he will not make this mistake again. See you in June.
