Bowl Projections: What Would 2012's Bowls Look Like with a Plus-One Tournament?
The BCS is in a complete and utter mess right now. Not only do we have three teams all from the same same conference but from the same division as our projected Top 3 teams.
What we also have is a strangle hold from those three teams on these top spots.
The time is now for a playoff system to get put into place. But what would something like this look like?
Let's say we live in a world where there are no automatic qualifiers. What will these bowl games look like?
Well, here are the four teams that would have a chance at playing for this year's national title game.
Orange Bowl: Clemson vs. West Virginia
1 of 5And in the bowl that no one would really care about, it's the Clemson Tigers as the ACC champion vs. the West Virginia Mountaineers as the Big East champion. Both teams will have fallen into this BCS bowl game.
While the game features two good offenses, it will prove to be an exciting game. Both teams will put up a lot of points, while neglecting to play any defense.
However, because it's between two teams that not too many care about, it will be the least-watched BCS bowl game.
Rose Bowl: Wisconsin vs. Oregon
2 of 5The Rose Bowl would not be affected by this plus-one system since they still would have the Big Ten champion vs. the Pac-12 champion. In this situation we would still get a great game between the Oregon Ducks and the Wisconsin Badgers.
Both teams have dynamic offenses, but Oregon's speed would prove to be too much for Wisconsin to handle.
Sugar Bowl: LSU vs. Oklahoma State
3 of 5LSU would open their semifinal game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. This would be an excellent matchup between two teams that are polar opposites of each other. The LSU Tigers would bring their excellent defense against the dynamic Oklahoma State offense.
Let's say Oklahoma State's Justin Blackmon goes off for a huge game against LSU's secondary. LSU has yet to see a receiver as dominant as Blackmon, so how would they defend him?
If Oklahoma State would win this game they would get the winner from the other final four game.
Fiesta Bowl: Alabama vs. Arkansas
4 of 5We have already seen this match already, and it was Alabama with a dominant victory over Arkansas, 38-14.
Why would this game, on a neutral field, be any different this time?
Alabama's defense would be too much for the Razorbacks offense to handle again. Plus in that game against Arkansas, Trent Richardson had a huge game, rushing for 126 yards with another 86 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Alabama would have no problem in dismantling the Razorbacks in this semifinal game to move on to the championship game.
National Championship Game: Alabama vs. Oklahoma State
5 of 5In the first-ever playoff series we wouldn't have the No. 1 team in the country, and we wouldn't even have an SEC team finish as the champion. Instead it would be the Big 12's Oklahoma State Cowboys who would end the dominance of the SEC and the BCS Championship.
Just like the LSU Tigers, Alabama has yet to see a physical receiver in Justin Blackmon. There is little-to-no game plan for a player like Blackmon, and he would cause matchup nightmares for the Crimson Tide.
Oklahoma State would go on to win this game and the BCS national title in a "plus-one" tournament.
