Bowl Predictions: Why LSU Is Guaranteed a Berth in BCS Championship Game

Here we go again. It happens every season. The BCS system is a false way of determining who the best team in the country is. College football will again be given another reason why when 2011 is all said and done.

Even if LSU loses a game, they should be guaranteed a spot to play for the title.

LSU has proven they are the best team in college football. They have defeated every opponent not named Alabama by double-digit margins. LSU went on the road to beat Alabama, West Virginia and defeated Oregon on a neutral field.

LSU will be playing in the BCS National Championship game no matter what happens in the SEC Championship game.

There is one potential spoiler to this party in Baton Rouge—Arkansas.

A loss to Arkansas at home would absolutely blow up the BCS standings. It won’t happen though.

Do you think Les Miles will allow his Tigers to lose to Arkansas at home?

Not a chance.

Miles is one of the greatest big-game coaches of all time.

Arkansas got destroyed at Alabama 38-14 in September. This is a different team but not 24 points different. They are inferior to the Tigers.

If LSU defeated Arkansas and lost to Georgia in the SEC Championship game, they would still be ahead of Alabama because they beat them on their field. They would be ahead of Arkansas because they would have defeated them and they would be ahead of Oklahoma State and Boise State because of who they lost to and level of competition.

But what if Arkansas defeated LSU? Could they possibly leap-frog the Tigers in the standings making it a possible Alabama-Arkansas national championship game? How would Alabama get the nod over a team they lost to at home?

So should it be Arkansas-LSU? What about Alabama and their demolishing of the Razorbacks in September?

Sounds like an issue that a playoff would take care of. But instead, we will all have our own say into how the BCS screwed one team and not the other. Same stuff, different year.

The best solution: Keep LSU in the championship game because they have deserved it. I think the computers would agree with me.
