UFC 139 Fight Card: The Fans Were The Biggest Winners of the Night
UFC 139 was one for the ages.
With every fight card, there is a general debate surrounding the biggest winners and losers of the event, but there is no debate following the instant classic that took place at the HP Pavilion on Saturday night.
The fans walked away as the biggest winners of the event.
UFC 139 delivered an action-packed showing with dramatic finishes and closely-contested battles, but it was the main event bout between legendary stars Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Dan Henderson that towered above the rest.
The former world champions battled it out for five rounds in an instant classic. As a fan of the sport, a fight card doesn't get any better.
Every main card bout was incredible in its own way, and the main event provided a massive cherry on top with an historic battle that will be remembered for years to come.
If the UFC could put together the perfect card to represent the sport, UFC 139 would be that card. The event proved why MMA is one of the most exciting sports in the world, and a world title wasn't even on the line.
The new five-round rule for non-title main events couldn't have come at a more perfect time. The extra rounds turned what would've been a solid main event into quite possibly the greatest fight in UFC history.
When this fight card was first announced, the vast majority knew it would be a great night of fights, but no one could've predicted the epic event that followed.
Even if your favorite fighter lost or you blew a ton of money gambling, you should still find a reason to leave with your head held high.
For fans of the sport, this was your night.
