WWE Survivor Series 2011: Why Alberto Del Rio Must Defeat CM Punk

Brandon GalvinNov 20, 2011

By no means should CM Punk defeat Alberto Del Rio Sunday at Survivor Series for the WWE Championship.

If WWE’s booking team wants to prove for a split second it isn’t full of complete fools, they’ll make sure Del Rio retains the championship.

CM Punk may deserve to win the WWE Title, but now is not the time for him to do so. Punk is already a legitimate superstar while Del Rio is teetering on the brink. The company did a phenomenal job building Del Rio, but he has been a massive disappointment since SummerSlam when he first won the WWE Championship from Punk in classic heel fashion.

Alberto Del Rio, more than anybody in the company right now, needs a huge victory. He has been booked like a complete joke since SummerSlam.

He was unable to retain his championship against John Cena and only won it back because he locked Cena out of the Hell in a Cell triple-threat with Punk. He also only beat Cena at Vengeance due to outside interference.

Not a single fan believes Del Rio is a threat to anybody, which is why it is imperative WWE let's him get the upper hand against Punk with a submission or clean pinfall victory.

Punk is the type of character that will forever have the fans’ support. He can afford to lose while Del Rio can’t by any means. Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer currently receives more heat from the fans, which is pathetic.

ADR is the star, the WWE Champion, yet his Ricardo Rodriguez receives a bigger reaction from the fans. The only way to buck this trend is to make Del Rio look like the threat he was before SummerSlam.

The only way to do that is for Del Rio to walk out Survivor Series with a decisive victory against CM Punk.
