UFC 139 Results: Danny Castillo out of Line Blasting Bailey for Missing Weight

Brian MaziqueNov 19, 2011

When lightweights Danny Castillo and Shemar Bailey clashed at UFC 139, you figured one man would come out on top, but you didn't expect to see the victor chastise the loser after the fight.

Castillo controlled the fight on the ground, but ultimately finished it with a flurry of punches that resulted in a TKO victory.

After the fight was over, Castillo seemed to miffed at the fact that Bailey came into the fight two pounds overweight. It was something Bailey himself acknowledge in his post-fight interview.

"I'm very disappointed in myself, definitely underperformed," he said. "I've never come in overweight, so it was definitely a bad start with that. Then Danny went out and fought a good fight. I wish the ref hadn't stopped the fight, but what are you going to do?"

That admission wasn't enough for Castillo. He seemed to feel it was indication of what Bailey thought of him as an opponent.

"I felt disrespected," said Castillo, referring to Bailey's 158-pound weigh-in weight. "You're supposed to be a professional. Don't come into the weigh-ins two pounds overweight."

There are many things that can affect a fighter's preparation for a fight. Bailey acknowledged he wasn't prepared, but it is way off-base and out of term for Castillo to attribute that to being taken lightly.

Even if that was the bulletin board material he chose to motivate himself, that is one thing. To carry it into a public admonishment was inappropriate.

Nonetheless, Bailey will have to live with his performance, preparation and humiliation of being beat and chastised.
