UFC 139 Results: Danny Castillo Owns Shamar Bailey in One-Sided Fight
Danny Castillo didn't waste any time imposing his will upon Shamar Bailey. This fight was one-sided from the start and though the referee stopped the fight prematurely, not doing so would have just been delaying the inevitable.
A series of brutal take downs where Bailey's entire body came off the ground made it clear that Castillo had the edge. While Bailey did well to avoid letting any of those take downs seal his fate, they all took a toll.
Castillo managed to get the full mount on Bailey and once he did, it was all over. Bailey was warned that he had to fight several times and failed to do so.
Bailey wasn't given much time to work his way out of a bad situation, but he wasn't showing that he was progressing towards doing so either. While the early stoppage is controversial, it wasn't unmerited. There was little to no indication that he was going to recover and a case could be made for stopping the fight when he did.
This is the best Castillo has ever looked in the octagon. Bailey is no slouch and the fact that Castillo was able to come in and man handle him speaks to just how far Castillo has come.
A first-round stoppage could not have been expected coming into this fight. It was clear Bailey had a game plan and he had no trouble executing it.
After the fight was over, Castillo let it be known that he felt "disrespected" by Bailey coming into this fight a couple of pounds overweight.
Maybe it gave him an edge coming into this fight. Maybe it would have been a quick fight either way.
Regardless, Castillo let it be known that he is a wrestler who has to be feared. He commanded respect in this fight and his victory was well deserved.
