BCS Rankings 2011: Why LSU and Alabama Rematch Is Best for College Football

The BCS was thrown into chaos on Friday night when No. 2 Oklahoma State was upset by Iowa State, and as a result the right BCS title matchup for college football is a rematch between LSU and Alabama.

The objective of the BCS is to eliminate split national champions and award the two best teams a shot at the title, and LSU and Alabama are clearly the two best teams in the country. It is not even close.

Oklahoma and Oregon have decent cases to be ranked No. 2 in the BCS, but both of those schools have not played or beaten the amount of quality teams Alabama has.

The Sooners lost to an average Texas Tech team for their one loss, and their December 3 meeting with Oklahoma State does not have the same BCS importance with the Cowboys now having one loss.

The Ducks' only loss, like Alabama, was to LSU. An opening season 40-27 defeat clearly showed that Oregon wasn't able to compete with the Tigers.

Alabama blew a great opportunity to beat LSU on November 5 due to several missed field goals, and ultimately lost 9-6 in overtime.

Alabama has beaten No. 6 Arkansas and No. 21 Penn State for its best quality wins. Oregon has only beaten No. 8 Stanford, and the Cardinal hadn't played anyone good before the Ducks, so that win isn't as big of a deal for Oregon as many think.

Alabama plays quality opponents almost every week. Florida and Tennessee may not be having good seasons, but if they were playing Pac-12 teams every week like Oregon, their record would be much better.

If LSU, Alabama, Oregon and Oklahoma all win out, then the Tigers ans Crimson Tide deserve to play for the BCS title.

They are the two best teams in the country and have the best defenses. Each team would destroy Oregon and Oklahoma.

The BCS' job is to get the two best teams in the title game, regardless of which conference they come from. The Crimson Tide and the Tigers are easily the best teams and deserve a rematch with the national title at stake.
