NFL Week 11 Fantasy Football: Vince Young and More QBs Not Worth the Risk

Justin WeltonNov 19, 2011

Fantasy football is getting closer and closer to playoff time. If you are in need of a quarterback to propel your team to the postseason, these three options shouldn’t even be considered.

Andy Dalton

Andy Dalton might receive an early Christmas present if linebacker Ray Lewis can’t suit up because of a toe injury. However, Dalton’s struggles last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers will continue against the Ravens.

Dalton has been great as a rookie in 2011. He has thrown for 1,866 yards and 14 touchdowns while leading the Bengals to a surprising 6-3 start.

But every time Dalton plays a top-15 type of defense he tends to showcase his rookie struggles. Against the San Francisco 49ers he goes 17-of-32 for 157 yards, with zero TDs and two INTs. Against the Steelers he goes 15-of-30 for 170 yards, two TDs and two massive INTs. Baltimore has a top-five total defense.

With the Ravens coming off an embarrassing defeat to the Seattle Seahawks, expect Baltimore to come out flying in a crucial divisional game.

Remember: Baltimore plays extremely well when they get up for their games (see Pittsburgh twice). They play down to their competition (see Seattle, Jacksonville, Tennessee).

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has thrown eight of his 12 INTs in his past four games.

He hasn’t been horrible, but he hasn’t been consistent. Reliability and consistency is the number one thing you want out of your fantasy quarterback.

He faces a Miami Dolphins defense that can be torched (No. 25 pass defense), but do you trust him? I wouldn’t trust him at this moment in time. Have him prove himself in the next few weeks and then make your decision before the playoffs start.

Besides, Miami has played quality football in the past two weeks, allowing a total of 12 points and no touchdowns while intercepting two balls.

Give Fitzpatrick a week off and see how he does.

Maybe Vince Young can be the answer for the Philadelphia Eagles to pick a victory against the New York Giants, but he won’t help your fantasy team pick up a victory.

If anything, Young will hand the ball off to LeSean McCoy 20-25 times. Philadelphia is 2-1 when they give McCoy 20 or more carries. They are only 1-5 when they give McCoy 20 carries or less. We will see a heavy dose of McCoy against the Giants 20th-ranked rush defense.

Why would you want to give Young the opportunity for your team against one of the best defensive lines in the NFL? Young is mobile, but Vick is more mobile and he got sacked 15 times this season. Just think of how many sacks he scurried away from too.

Even if Young has a pedigree, he only has one pass attempt in 2011. His one throw was an interception earlier in the season. Not a good omen.

Stay clear of Young until he proves he can be relied upon.
