Urban Meyer Ohio State: Why Buckeyes Fans Shouldn't Give Up Hope on Elite Coach
Sources say that Urban Meyer and Ohio State have been in contact about Meyer becoming the Buckeyes head coach.
Meyer has not announced that he has any interest in coaching again, but the former Florida coach is only 47 years old and was one of the best at his trade before walking away. Meyer led the Gators to two National Championships, and his .842 winning percentage through the 2009 season was the highest among active coaches at the time.
Meyer is clearly an elite coach, and he could be the head coach of any program he wanted.
Meyer has said that although he does miss certain aspects of coaching he enjoys the fact that he gets to spend more time with his family.
Meyer has ties to Ohio State and the state of Ohio in general. He earned his Master's at Ohio State, and he was born and raised in the state of Ohio.
Perhaps Meyer would like to return to where it all began, and if he does relocate he could easily coach Ohio State and spend time with his family.
While this is obviously all speculation, if Meyer were to coach again it would make sense to work in Columbus.
Ohio State is not what it used to be, but they are still an elite program. While they still face possible punishment from the NCAA, they would still be a good option for Meyer. He could return this program to glory and live in his home state.
Meyer's children are growing up, with his two daughters already being in college. His son Nate in college yet, but will be soon and with all of his children out of the house Meyer may turn his focus back to coaching.
If Ohio State makes Meyer an offer (and there's next to no doubt that they will) he will be forced to seriously consider it.
Buckeyes fans shouldn't be giving up hope just yet. While Meyer denies that he wants to coach for Ohio State, there's no telling what he'll do.
