Week 11 Fantasy Football Rankings: Rob Gronkowski and Top 3 TE Fantasy Studs

Luis BatlleNov 19, 2011

While most fantasy football owners invest most of their time in their quarterbacks, running backs and wide receivers, it may well be the tight end position that wins games. This has especially been the case this season, as several tight ends have burst onto the scene in the NFL.

A team like the New England Patriots, who have three top-notch receivers, still tend to go to their two young tight ends more, including TE Rob Gronkowski.

These are the top three fantasy football tight ends will put on exceptional performances in Week 11.

Rob Gronkowski, New England Patriots

Quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots boast a plethora of talent at the wide receiver position, yet time and time again Brady elects to go to tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski.

Gronkowski has been a lethal tight end in the fantasy world, as he has burst on to the scene this season with top-notch performances. Trailing the New Orleans Saints Jimmy Graham, Gronkowski has a second-best 709 yards this season on 52 receptions. His 709 receiving yards rank at No. 9 in the league.

Talk about some numbers.

He also had posted a whopping eight touchdowns this season, second to only Calvin Johnson of the Detroit Lions in receiving touchdowns. Gronkowski posted two touchdowns in the Patriots' most recent victory over the New York Jets.

In three of his last four home games, Gronkowski has put up at least 74 yards receiving. He has also had back-to-back 100 yard games and three touchdowns in his last two outing. The No.16 Kansas City Chiefs pass defense will find a plethora of matchup problems against the size and athletic ability Gronkowski boasts at the position.

Vernon Davis, San Francisco 49ers

After being the player that had the talent but never could bring it to the table, Davis has had his moments this season in which his game looks revitalized.

The leading receiver for the 49ers, Davis will get targeted early and often from quarterback Alex Smith, as the Arizona Cardinals are one of the weaker pass defenses in the league at No. 24. The Cardinals give up over 255 yards per game passing, as the 49ers will look to exploit the weakness early and often.

In their win last week over the Giants, Davis said it himself. They knew the Giants would expect a run game and decided to come out throwing the football. With Frank Gore coming back from injury, there is no doubt Smith and Davis know they will have to get off to a hot start to make sure Gore gets his rest throughout the game.

Tony Gonzalez, Atlanta Falcons

Tony Gonzalez, a veteran in the league, has quietly picked up his game as of late to the surprise of many.

In his last two weeks, Gonzalez has recorded 107 yards and two touchdowns against the Colts and Saints.

Against another mediocre pass defense in the No. 16 Tennessee Titans, fully expect Matt Ryan to come out throwing the football. As the Titans may do a solid job on the wide receivers, with the Titans holding Carolina hot-shot Steve Smith to just 33 yards and three receptions, expect a plethora of opening for Gonzalez to catch the football.

Expect Gonzalez to continue his recent big-time production against the Titans in a must-win home game for the Falcons.
