WWE News: CM Punk Talks Survivor Series, Merch and WWE Life
As you may know, CM Punk and the WWE hosted a Pre-Survivor Series fan event on Friday at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Leading up to that he spoke with the New York Post and had some interesting comments about the upcoming event. He mentioned that he would be the undercard to the main event, but added:
""I donโt feel slighted about that at all. Rock coming back is a big deal and everybody wants to produce in [Madison Square] Garden. The slogan on the back of my t-shirt is not just as slogan on the back of a t-shirt, I truly am the best in the world. Rock and Cena are going to be sitting in Gorilla when I get done with my match and walk through with my WWE Title and say โfollow that.'"

It seems that Punk is confident that he is poised for a title run. If this does come to fruition, this would be great for WWE's "A" show, as Alberto Del Rio has been a bit of an absentee champion. Yes, he has been on TV,ย but he has been severely overshadowed by Punk, Ryder and Cena.
That is not the way the WWE champ should be represented. Del Rio is a solid talent and deserves his spot; it just seems like the timing for this run is not right for him. Maybe once the Rock hype dies down and Punk's steam fades off, they can give Del Rio another shot. Right now Punk needs to walk away with the belt and the title needs to be revamped.
I have said it before, but anyone that wears this style of WWE title is merely a placeholder for John Cena's next run.
Now back to the interview, Punk discussed his latest boost in popularity stating:
""Itโs really interesting that nobody has been able to scratch at Cena as the ace of the company. Iโve always been a believer in my own abilities and have said if given a shot I could be that guy. I think John Cenaโs appeal is that heโs a superhero, a big muscle-bound He-Man type guy. Iโve beat John Cena in merchandise sales and I wonโt get into that."
"
Clearly, Punk is more than aware that he is the first wrestler in probably three years to outsell Cena merchandise. This is a huge feat especially considering Cena is a modern-day Hulk Hogan.
Now for those of you who wanted to know why Punk changed his song to "Cult of Personality," here's your answer:
""One of the reasons why I wanted โCult of Personalityโ as my song because to me, itโs all about the personality. I think Iโm a character that resonates with a lot of people. Being the ace of the company and face of the company is a burden I can shoulder. It hasnโt happened yet but it will."
"
Lastly, Punk talked about his straight-edge lifestyle, mentioning that it's not just a gimmickโit's a part of his life:
""Drugs and all of that have never been glamorous to me. Itโs weird, you could ride a roller coaster, and roller coasters are fun but every once in a while some horrible accident happens and God forbid someone dies riding a roller coaster. Thatโs enough to get certain people to say โIโm never riding a roller coaster.โ You look at drug use and abuse and the odds of that roller coaster derailing are much, much higher than an actual roller coaster derailing. Iโve seen the effects of drugs and alcohol and that just never looked like fun to me.Blacking out, not remembering your night, waking up next to someone you donโt know, any kind of side effect seems like something somebody that didnโt like you would do to you so I never understood why you would do that to yourself."
"
Overall, this was a solid interview and it's nice to see Punk getting more chances at media events. Not all of them are home-run interviews as you may remember his "Good Day Austin" interview (in case you missed it you can read about here).
Don't get me wrong, that bomb was not of Punk's doing, but it does go to show that the WWE is still not over with all of the mainstream media.
