Week 11 College Football Predictions: Alabama Will Skid in Rankings After Win

Kyle VassaloNov 18, 2011

No. 3 Alabama is the best one-loss team in the country, but taking on a meaningless team like Georgia Southern while No. 4 Oregon and No. 5 Oklahoma square off against highly-touted opponents is going to force the Crimson Tide to slip all the way to No. 5.

Alabama still has Auburn lying ahead, and they certainly aren't out of the national championship picture by any means, but Week 11 is going to be unkind to the Crimson Tide, regardless of what they are able to do on Saturday.

Oregon took down Stanford last week and now face (8-2) USC, who isn't bowl eligible but would give them another signature victory and make their resume more impressive than Alabama's.

Oregon only has one loss on the season, which, like Alabama, came at the hands of the No. 1 team in the country. But unlike the Crimson Tide, the Ducks sustained their loss in the very first game of the year.

To make matters worse, the Oklahoma Sooners take on a ranked, but highly vulnerable Baylor squad this week. The Bears may be undefeated at home, but the toughest opponent they've faced at home was Missouri.

Robert Griffin III and the Bears carry a big name, but their inability to win by more than a field goal in the last four weeks and going 2-2 in that same span points to the uphill battle they face in taking on Landry Jones and the Sooners.

If the Sooners are able to come away with a victory, that will give them wins over four ranked opponents this season. Their loss was dealt to them by a terrible Texas Tech team, but another win over a ranked opponent will weigh heavily in the rankings.

They face Oklahoma State at the end of the season in a matchup that could essentially decide which team takes the second spot in the national championship.

Alabama has the best defense in the country, and even though they lost to LSU, they are still the most talented team in the country. Unfortunately, the BCS is an imperfect system.

They may as well be idle this week, as a win over Georgia Southern does nothing for them. Big wins from the competition will force them to endure an unavoidable skid this week.
