Leverkusen vs. Chelsea: Complete Preview, Live Stream, Start Time and Schedule

Nicholas GossNov 18, 2011

Chelsea will take control over Group E with a convincing win against Bundesliga side Bayern Leverkusen in the club's next UEFA Champions League match.

Chelsea has a massive Premier League game against Liverpool on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, and will need to be careful not to pick up any injuries for Wednesday's game versus Leverkusen.

The Blues lead the group with eight points but Leverkusen are right behind them with six points in second place, and La Liga side Valencia are a close third with five points.

A win would be massive for the Blues' chances of winning the group, but a loss could put them in real danger of missing the knockout stage altogether.

Let's look at everything you need to know about this important match.

Where: BayArena, Leverkusen, Germany

Watch: Fox Sports Net, MSG Plus, ITV1

Live Stream: ESPN3.com, Foxsoccer.tv

When: Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 2:45 p.m. EST

Player to watch for Chelsea: Fernando Torres

Much of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres' success this season has come during Champions League play. Torres leads Chelsea with two goals in the Champions League and also leads the club with 17 shots.

Torres' offense comes alive in European play and if he can ignite the crowd and his teammates with an early goal then the Blues will be in great shape for a victory.

Player to watch for Bayern Leverkusen: Bernd Leno

Bayern Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno has allowed four goals in his last two Champions league matches combined (both to Valencia) and against Chelsea he will need to be near-perfect to give his club a chance for an upset.

Chelsea has many talented attackers and they will test the young German early and often on Wednesday.

Key Matchup: Chelsea wingers vs. Leverkusen back four

Chelsea has skilled wingers such as Juan Mata and talented attacking wing backs in Ashley Cole and Jose Bosingwa who will cause problems down the flanks for Bayern Leverkusen.

Chelsea has speed on the wings and if Leverkusen is not careful then they will allow dangerous crosses to be kicked into the penalty area where the Blues will have several players with great heading skills waiting to score.

What They're Saying:

Bayern Leverkusen midfielder Michael Ballack played at Chelsea for four years and moved back to Germany last season.

He is, however, considering leaving the Bundesliga side. Here is what Ballack said about a move, via Goal.com:

"

"A move abroad could be good," he told Sky. "From my gut, at the moment, I would say yes. Currently I have little thought of extending my contract.

"At the moment I am assuming that this will be my last season at Leverkusen.

"I still feel good, but I do not know what I will do yet. If I stay healthy, I still would like to play one, or two years at a high level."

"

Prediction: Chelsea wins 3-1

Chelsea knows the importance of this game and they have too much attacking power for Bayern Leverkusen to stop in this match.

The Blues had six times as many shots on goal as Bayern in the two teams' group stage match on September 14 (a 2-0 Chelsea win), and Chelsea also won the possession battle 58 percent to 42 percent.

The Blues will dominate Leverkusen again and build a nice lead atop Group E.
