Week 11 College Football Picks: Nebraska and Ranked Teams on Upset Alert

Kyle VassaloNov 18, 2011

Nebraska went into Beaver Stadium and barely squeaked by Penn State, even though the Nittany Lions were right smack in the middle of the biggest scandal in the history of sports and their legendary coach had been fired just days before.

Going into the Big House against the Michigan Wolverines will be a much taller task.

This is a Nebraska team who gave up 28 points in a loss to Northwestern at home. Their defense has proven that it's vulnerable, and Michigan has just the guy to take advantage of their weaknesses.

Denard Robinson isn't a Heisman candidate, but he's still capable of producing monster numbers. He's scored an absurd 12 touchdowns on the ground this season and has thrown for 1,611 yards this season.

He's the epitome of a dual-threat quarterback, and though he has a tendency to turn the ball over, Michigan's offense will destroy the Nebraska defense, and a streaky Taylor Martinez isn't going to be able to compete.

Nebraska isn't the only ranked team in danger of being upset either. Here are two other teams that will share their misery.

No. 13 Kansas State vs. No. 23 Texas

The Kansas State Wildcats started off the season white hot, but after dropping two games in a row, they needed something more than a miracle quadruple-overtime victory against Texas A&M at home to prove they are the juggernaut team we thought they were back in October.

They'll have that chance this week.

Texas was held to just five points last week against Missouri and acquired their third loss of the season. Like the Wildcats, they've been beaten down by a brutal Big 12 schedule, and their multiple losses don't do the talent on their team justice.

Texas can't hope to compete with Kansas State in a shootout, but if they can keep it on the ground, as they like to do, they have a legitimate shot at pulling off the upset.

Oklahoma proved Kansas State's offense isn't unstoppable, and if Texas keeps the game manageable, they'll have no problem getting the better of a Kansas State defense that surrenders just under 30 PPG.

No. 17 Wisconsin vs Illinois

Wisconsin is still in the hunt for a Big Ten championship, and they take on Penn State next week in a game jam-packed with conference ramifications.

That's the problem.

Going on the road against Illinois may seem like a gimme game, but it isn't. Russell Wilson and the Badgers are going to have their hands full against Illinois, who has a knack for pulling off the upset.

The Illini have dropped four straight and are being kicked around by Big Ten juggernauts. After a big upset win against ASU, it looked as though they could be a dark horse in the conference. Though they are ice cold, flying under the radar gives them the perfect opportunity to blindside Wisconsin.

Illinois gives up an average of 18.6 PPG. They have the 12th-ranked defense in the country, and with Wisonsin losing two of their last three road games, an upset certainly isn't out of the question here.
