Michigan Football Notes: Wolverine Recruits to Shine in All-Star Games

Joel GreerNov 18, 2011

A good chance to view Michigan's recent recruits are by watching the two national high school All-Star games.

The 12th U.S. Army All-American Bowl will be held Jan. 7, 2012 in San Antonio, while the 5th Under Armour All-American Game will be played Jan. 5, 2012 in St. Petersburg.

Representing the Wolverines in San Antonio will be a pair of verbal commits: You'll get the opportunity to see OT Erik Magnuson, and LB Royce-Jenkins Stone.

At the Under-Armour game, LB Terry Richardson and CB Joe Bolden are the two Michigan representatives who have already committed.

Several prospects use these two games to announce where they will play their college football.

Michigan prospects playing the the U.S. Army game are CB/S Shaq Thompson, WR Stefon Diggs, WR Jordan Payton, WR Dwayne Stanford, DE Adolphus Washington, and OL Zach Banner.

Prospects who plan on being in St. Petersburg are OT Josh Garnett, OT Andrus Peat, and DE Ifeadi Odenigbo.

Visits

Although Michigan already has six offensive linemen committed for 2012, there must be room for one more. Garnett, a 5-Star guard from just outside Seattle, Wash., will attend Saturday's Michigan-Nebraska game.

Scout.com reports that Ohio State commit Bri'onte Dunn will also be in attendance.

Demar Dorsey

Back in the recruiting picture is 5-Star cornerback Demar Dorsey.

It's a long shot at best, but the former Michigan commit is trying to turn his life around on two fronts.

A speedster from Fort Lauderdale, Dorcey signed a letter of intent in February 2010.

Michigan never disclosed its reasons, but Dorsey wasn't admitted to the university.

Back in 2007,  Dorsey had run-ins with the law over a pair of burglaries, but was able to make it through the Florida First Offender Diversion Program to avoid a conviction.

The following year, he was acquitted of an armed robbery charge, so for all practical purposes his record was clean.

Supposedly, Dorsey also had some grade issues, and the combination of the two kept him out of Rich Rodriguez' defensive backfield.

Today, Dorcey is using his 4.25 speed as a cornerback and safety for Grand Rapids Community College.

The cousin of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson, Dorsey sees himself playing for the Wolverines in 2013.

"I see my cousin out there, he’s doing his thing (at Michigan), and I know from where I’ve been playing and where he’s been playing, we both (have been) doing our thing for a long time," Dorsey told mlive.com.

To get into Michigan, Dorcey will also have to make it though the NCAA clearinghouse. There are issues there, too.

"If I can get into the school, I know I'll find a way to make the team," he told the Detroit News. "Nobody knows how bad I want it."
