NFL Picks Week 11: Teams That Will Turn to the Running Game for Wins

Tim KeeneyNov 17, 2011

Here's a quick look at three NFL teams that will turn to the run early and often for wins during Week 11 action.

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jags are second in the NFL in rushing attempts per game, with 32.2. What's more, they have actually increased that in the last three games to 36 per game.

Against a Cleveland Browns defense that is allowing the third-most rushing yards per game in the league (142.8), the Jags would be smart to hand it off to Maurice Jones-Drew early and often.

They will want to control the game on the road, and the best way to do that is with the running game. With Blaine Gabbert still struggling, expect 30 to 35 carries from Jacksonville en route to a win.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons could once again be without Julio Jones in this one, and even though Matt Ryan was successful last week, he has yet to get fully in sync with Roddy White.

All-in-all, this passing game still isn't where it wants to be.

It's a good thing, then, that they have Michael Turner to lean on. Turner is always near the top of the league in carries, and that's no different this year, as he is third in the NFL with 179.

Against the Titans, Turner should get well above 20 carries. Tennessee is giving up 125.2 yards per game, and that number skyrockets to 143.5 on the road.

Expect Turner, and at times Jacquizz Rodgers, to run wild.

Chicago Bears

Matt Forte had one of his worse games of the season last week, and it's likely that the Bears will try to get him going early and often against the San Diego Chargers.

The Chargers gave up almost 200 yards of total offense to Michael Bush last Thursday, and have given up an average of 140 yards over their last three games.

Forte has seen lots of holes and broken lots of tackles this season, and that should be no different on Sunday against San Diego.
