Thursday Night Football: Jets Defense Will Jolt Anemic Broncos Offense

Tim KeeneyNov 17, 2011

Last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos ran the ball 55 times.

And what's possibly even more shocking, that game plan actually worked, as they knocked off the Chiefs, 17-10.

With Tim Tebow at quarterback, it's likely the Broncos will try to do that again tonight against the New York Jets. Unfortunately for Denver, the Jets might not let that happen.

In the last three games, New York has allowed just 84 rushing yards per game and a minuscule 3.4 yards per carry. Both of those stats are top five in the league.

Still though, it's likely the Broncos will run the ball for the majority of their plays in order to slow the game down and control possession.

Throw in the fact that the Jets' offense is far from explosive, and Thursday night's battle will likely be a low-scoring one.

This is exactly why New York's defense will be so important in this one.

The Jets will need to stop the run like they have in the past few games in order to get Denver off the field.

More importantly, they need to stop the run so Tebow will be forced to throw more than eight times. If he has to put it through the air, it's likely the Jets will force a bunch of turnovers and turn those into more points.

Rest assured this won't be a pretty game. You won't see a lot of long touchdowns or pretty throws from these two quarterbacks.

All the more reason the Jets defense will be the biggest key factor in this one.
