5 Underrated Fantasy Plays for Week 11

Jordan SmithNov 17, 2011

Every week guys fly under the radar and produce solid fantasy numbers. These are usually the ones on your bench who you refuse to play but refuse to cut. You tell your friends "Well if I had played BLAH BLAH BLAH!" and "What could've been!"

Don't let that happen to you this week. There's good matchups to be found and with the slew of injuries to fantasy players, you need to come up with fantasy points somewhere.

These five players have excellent matchups and the potential to carry your fantasy team this week. The playoffs await.

Lance Ball

1 of 5

If I told you a running back were virtually guaranteed 20-plus carries in a given week what would you do? You'd have to start him.

Ball carried the ball an incredible 30 times as the third-string running back to Knowshon Moreno and Willis McGahee. Moreno is on injured reserve and McGahee is questionable for Thursday night with a hamstring injury. It's around a 50/50 chance of McGahee playing, and if he isn't then Lance Ball is the man.

The Jets' defense has been particularly Jets-like versus the run. With the T-bone offense the Jets will likely have Cromartie and Revis locking down the only two receivers Tebow will ever have on the field. They'll have to run the ball a ton to do anything with Tebow throwing.

Ball is ranked 23rd in ESPN's weekly rankings. I say he's a must play if McGahee is out.

Maurice Morris

2 of 5

The Lions' running game has been all around abysmal, but the matchup here indicates opportunity. The Lions host a struggling Carolina team that has surrendered the most fantasy points to opposing running backs on the year.

Morris has also been coming on a little stronger lately. He still posted five points in an absolute blowout to the Bears last week. Not eye popping, but consider that many running backs are lucky to even get five when down by two or more touchdowns. The week before, he posted a 12-point game against a Denver defense that is very underrated against the run.

Morris is ranked 26th in ESPN's rankings this week. Start him unless you're stacked at running back. The Panthers defense will oblige.

Kansas City Wide Receivers

3 of 5

Many are all but abandoning Kansas City wide receivers Dwayne Bowe, Steve Breaston and Jon Baldwin because of Matt Cassel's injury and unknown replacement Tyler Palko.

Don't. New England has the absolute worst secondary in the league when they're fielding all their starters. With injuries, it has become absolutely abysmal. Furthermore, the Chiefs are likely to be down, and quickly, in this game. That means a lot of throwing to try and catch up, and that means a lot of likely garbage time stats for these wide receivers.

It may not look pretty, but every one of them has value with such an awful matchup. New England has surrendered 28 points per game to opposing wide receivers. There's plenty to go around.

Jacksonville Defense

4 of 5

Those in deeper leagues might be clamoring for a matchup play on defense. The Jags have a respectable one against the Browns this week.

Cleveland is averaging an atrocious 14.6 points per game. The Jaguars defense is very underrated and actually ranks sixth in the league in points allowed per game at 18.4.

Colt McCoy has been playing very poorly lately, and the Jaguars are capable of pressuring the quarterback. That leads to sacks, interceptions and defensive touchdowns. Play the Jags this week and be well rewarded.

Daniel Thomas

5 of 5

Definitely the riskiest out of these five, Thomas has the most potential and the most likely day for a zero.

However, it is extremely unlikely that Reggie Bush will ever manage his way in as a goal line back again. He's simply not suited for it, despite the fact he had two touchdowns last week. It is the role for which they drafted Thomas, and he still got more carries last week than Bush.

Against Buffalo's horrendous run defense, it makes him a worthwhile flex play. The Dolphins will score points, and that means a good chance for 40-plus yards and a score for Thomas.
