2012 NFL Mock Draft: The Latest on Andrew Luck Sweepstakes

Chris TrapassoNov 17, 2011

Andrew Luck has been the subject of some media scrutiny of late (thanks, Phil Simms) and after his Stanford Cardinal were defeated at home by the Oregon Ducks last week, his stock is taking a slight dip.

However, Luck is still the probable No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft; he's got too much potential.

Let's check in on the front-runners in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes entering Week 11.

Indianapolis Colts

Have we ever seen the loss of one player result in such a dramatic decline in one team? Surely not in my lifetime.

The Colts are in total disarray and have a legitimate chance to go the entire regular season without a win; it's been that bad.

They've got a two-game "lead" over four teams and right now, they look like the eventual holder of the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft.

They have New England, Baltimore, Tennessee and Houston left on the schedule.

Their Week 12 game against the Panthers could ultimately decide it all.

Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck on the same roster?

Insane.

St. Louis Rams

Do the Rams want that No. 1 overall pick?

Would they dangle Andrew Luck as trade bait, or be willing to send Sam Bradford packing?

They won in an complete snooze-fest last week in Cleveland and have a reasonable schedule remaining.

They play the 49ers twice, along with the Steelers and Bengals, but face the Seahawks on two occasions and have a "showdown" with the Cardinals.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins have played much better the last two weeks, winning both games over weak opponents. (Chiefs, Redskins). If they lose to the Bills this week, they'll have a tough time winning many games down the stretch.

The rest of their schedule is brutal.

They have four divisional games remaining (counting this week) and have non-division games against the Raiders, Eagles and Cowboys.

To conclude, I don't see how the Colts "lose" this sweepstakes at this point.
