NFL Picks Week 11: Buffalo Bills and More Underdogs Who Will Cover the Spread

Alex KayNov 17, 2011

There weren’t too many big upsets in Week 10 of the NFL season, but I have a feeling that Week 11 is going to be full of underdogs covering and winning straight up.

I think most conventional gambling wisdom can be thrown out the window when heated rivals go up against one another, regardless of the stakes, and we see a bunch of those matchups this week.

Let’s take a look at some of these teams that bookmakers have deemed underdogs who will either win outright or, at the least, cover.

Buffalo Bills (+2) at Miami Dolphins

This game is going to be a blowout, and the Dolphins are going to have their little winning streak snapped by the Bills.

The ‘Fins barely got past the Redskins last week and that is a team that the Bills shut out, 23-0, in Week 8.

While Reggie Bush and Matt Moore are playing at a high level right now, the Dolphins have been playing with a lead over the past two games and won’t be able to answer when Ryan Fitzpatrick and Fred Jackson have Buffalo up early and the ‘Fins are forced to run.

Carolina Panthers (+7) at Detroit Lions

Let’s not discredit this Panthers team that had a meltdown last week against the Tennessee Titans.

Carolina was highly penalized in that game and also had terrible all-around play from their offense, defense and special teams.

That was the first time the Panthers failed to cover a spread all season coming of an ATS loss and it won’t reach three in a row.

Cam Newton is usually able to keep his offense in close games, as evidenced by their narrow losses to Green Bay, New Orleans and Chicago. I expect them to be within a field goal, win or lose, at the outcome of this game.

Kansas City Chiefs (+15) at New England Patriots

Fifteen points is far too many to lie down on the Patriots. Their defense is so atrocious that even a Tyler Palko-led Chiefs offense will be able to put a few touchdowns on the board.

Kansas City will not win this game, but it should be able to keep it under 14 and prevent a complete blowout.
