NFL Week 11 Predictions: Chargers and Greatest Upset Picks

Eric BallNov 17, 2011

It’s a classic situation in the NFL that ends up surprising everybody.

In one corner, we have the reeling San Diego Chargers that are losing games in every way imaginable. At 4-5, San Diego has to win its next game.

In the other corner, we have the red-hot Chicago Bears. They’ve won four in a row behind the smooth play of Jay Cutler and the ridiculous efforts of Matt Forte (pay the man!).

Take the Chargers.

They are still statistically the fourth-best passing team in the league. Turnovers have killed them, but Philip Rivers is too good to completely implode for the rest of the season. I fully expect him to explode against the Bears' 29th-ranked passing defense.

Expect the seventh-ranked Chargers pass defense to pick off Cutler at least twice, and the team desperate for a win gets the job done over a team that is a little too complacent.

Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

This is one of the classic rivalries in sports and one of the only times you can truly uttered the “throw the record books out when they meet” line.

Yes, the Redskins offense is struggling right now; yes, the Cowboys are coming off two double-digit wins, but I think the Redskins defense is going to give QB Tony Romo absolute fits.

He threw for 255 yards with an interception at home against the ‘Skins in Week 3, but is going to really be under pressure at FedEx Field. The veteran Redskins defense is going to dial up the pressure and force Romo into some awful decisions, a common occurrence for him on the road. I smell a DeAngelo Hall pick-six on the horizon.

The Cowboys defense is a coin flip most weeks, and expect it to succumb to a Redskins running game that gets back on track.

New York Jets @ Denver Broncos

The Broncos have the most unconventional offense in the league and one that hasn’t been seen in the NFL in decades.

The Jets have three days to prepare for it.

Tim Tebow is still struggling in the passing game, but with the offense tailor-made around his strengths, he is confusing defenses.

When he hands the ball off, the defense hesitates to see which player has the ball. That extra second equals at least a four-yard gain. Remember: The Broncos have rushed for more than 500 yards in the past two games!

When you factor in the cross-country flight and Mile High home-field advantage, Tebow mania is about to get out of control.
