NFL Power Rankings: Struggling Teams That Will Continue to Plummet in Week 11

Mike ChiariNov 16, 2011

With just a month-and-a-half remaining in the NFL season, now is the time for teams to start making their push toward the playoffs. Several playoff-caliber teams have struggled mightily in recent weeks, though, and because of that they are in danger of missing out.

That could all change with a simple win, but that is a lot easier said than done. At the most inopportune of times, many of these teams have incredibly tough matchups. Here are three teams that have been in a downward spiral and won't be able to recover from it in Week 11.

Philadelphia Eagles

If the Philadelphia Eagles' season didn't come to an end with their loss to the Arizona Cardinals last week, the New York Giants may be able to do the job on Sunday night. The G-Men already beat the Eagles on the road earlier in the season, and there is no indication that Philly will be able to change their luck this week.

The offense and quarterback Michael Vick have been incredibly prone to turnovers, but defense has been the biggest issue. High-profile signings like Cullen Jenkins and Nnamdi Asomugha clearly haven't changed the culture on that side of the ball, as the Eagles have been gashed through the air and on the ground. Giants quarterback Eli Manning has been fantastic this season, and I expect that to continue on Sunday.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

While the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a tough schedule as of late, they have really struggled with three consecutive losses. The Bucs looked to be in great position after impressive victories over the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints, but they haven't been very competitive recently. The Bucs will have yet another difficult opponent this week in the Green Bay Packers.

The undefeated Packers have rolled through their competition, and that figures to continue this week. The Bucs have been uncharacteristically bad on defense in essentially every aspect. The offense has been suspect as wellm as running back LeGarrette Blount is battling back from injury and quarterback Josh Freeman has been inconsistent. Even if Tampa was on top of its game, beating the Packers would be a tall task.

San Diego Chargers

After a hot 4-1 start to the season, the San Diego Chargers looked to be well on their way to returning to the postseason. Four straight losses later, though, they are a game behind the Oakland Raiders in the AFC West and are absolutely reeling. The Chargers desperately need a victory, but they will run into the red-hot Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers has really had a tough time this season, as he has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns. The Bears are susceptible against the pass, but they have also been playing like the Bears of old in forcing turnovers. That could blow up in San Diego's face, and with the game being on the road, I believe it will.
