WWE Survivor Series 2011: Top 10 Matches in Survivor Series History

Justin WatryNov 16, 2011

WWE Survivor Series has a long history of great matches. Some have been long, drawn out battles, while others were fast paced and action filled.

While the No. 1 match was never in much doubt, the rest were very fun to put together. As usual, I will not be discussing a certain individual, so please save any questions on "him." Thank you; now let's begin with the list...

10. Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show

1 of 10

I loved this match. It was only about five minutes, but it had so much of a "big feel" around it that I didn't even notice until it was over.

Truth be told, I was behind Brock Lesnar since his debut. The second he debuted, I knew he was being pushed to the moon. Well, we all know how his career went!

Back to this match, it was an awesome battle between to two giant men. This was exactly what should have happened, and the ending featured a shocking turn of events with The Big Show winning the WWE title off of Brock.

9. Batista vs. the Undertaker

2 of 10

What a feud these three men had in 2007! Edge has always been a great performer, but his return here was one of his greatest moments.

Of course, the actual match was Undertaker vs. Batista in a Heck on a Deck match for the World title. They went over 20 minutes, and the crowd was into the match from the beginning.

To see a "screy finish" may not have been ideal, but it had to be done here. Batista retained his title, while Edge came back as a full fledged heel to feud with Undertaker. Great match!

8. Team DX vs Team Rated RKO

3 of 10

This was beautiful.

This is how you pay off a storyline. The faces stand tall while the heels were beaten clean. Perfect ending to a long feud between everyone involved.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels led their team to defeated Edge, Randy Orton and their group. A clean sweep to reset the company the next night...

7. Stone Cold vs HHH

4 of 10

The only thing I didn't like about this match was the finish. It needed a winner and a loser. The "ending" was cool to see, but it was not needed in this great match.

Triple H was back a week later, so it was not even worth doing. Months later, these two teamed up, but their battles were epic. This one was no different.

Again, there was no finish, but these two had a great No Holds Barred battle in 2000.

6. Six-Man Tables Match

5 of 10

Survivor Series 2002 was one of the best PPV shows in the history of WWE. Being in Madison Square Garden, you knew the company was going to pull out all the stops.

The opening match set the tone of the evening perfectly. A six-man tables match with Jeff Hardy, Bubba and Spike Dudley vs. Three Minute Warning was a fine choice.

The ending with D-Von Dudley reuniting with his brother was the icing on the cake. Such a wonderful, underappreciated match here.

5. Orton vs HBK

6 of 10

This match was for the WWE Championship, and it was one of the shining moments in Randy Orton's career. Shawn Michaels has always been a great performer, but many still doubt Orton's abilities.

His run in 2007 started to prove the doubters wrong. His match with HBK on this night would be "Exhibit A." Both men had stipulations against, but they found a way to make it work.

4. Smackdown vs Raw

7 of 10

Wow!

Look at the list of names involved here, and you quickly realize how big this match was. Tons of great performers and many legends all in one match!

You add in the fact that Eddie Guerrero was set to be also be in the match, and you have a greater appreciation for this 2005 main event. Raw vs. Smackdown battles mean very little in 2011, but they sure meant a lot in 2005.

My hat goes off to everybody involved in this match. It was a great main event, and I remember it fondly. Everything except Tazz, of course.

3. Winner Take All

8 of 10

This is one of the my favorite feuds of all time. The stakes were so high in this match. The nail biting was going on all weekend in the Watry household 10 years ago.

Once the final bell rang, Team WWF (WWE) was triumphant, and all was right with the world. That image of Vince McMahon celebrating on top of the ramp was great. The match itself was amazing as well.

Again, just look at all the performers in this one main event. The near hour long battle never had a dull moment, and the commentary was top notch. Great story with an even greater finish.

2. Team Bischoff vs. Team Austin

9 of 10

What a promo video!

That may be in the top 10 of great promo videos done by WWE. Anyway, this was another feud that had gone on for months and needed a conclusion.

Either Stone Cold was gone, or the "old Rattlesnake" was back on Raw each and every week. The fans were just clamoring for Team Austin to defeat Bischoff's team.

I hate to repeat myself, but look at the guys in this one match. Just a loaded line up all wrapped up into one epic match. The star belonged to Shawn Michaels, but Chris Jericho was right behind him as "MVP" of the night.

Awesome match! Only one match was better in the history of Survivor Series...

1. Elimination Chamber

10 of 10

The first ever Elimination Chamber was very interesting.

First, many fans did not even know that the match was all about until show time.

Second, some of participants had no business being World Champion, so most did not even stand a chance to win.

Third, Shawn Michaels was returning for his second match in the past four years, so nobody knew how well he would even perform, much less in a World title main event in New York City.

With all of that against the WWE, everybody came through big time. Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Booker T, Christ Jericho, Kane and RVD all put on a legendary match that will be remembered for generations and generations. This was easily the best match in the rich history of Survivor Series.
