Week 11 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em: Josh Freeman, Roy Helu and Others to Bench

Zach KruseNov 16, 2011

In Week 11 of the NFL season, the following six players might be better served on your fantasy football bench:

QB Andy Dalton, Bengals

Dalton wasn't terrible (170 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions) against the Steelers last week, but he's dealing with a two-headed monster this weekend. On one hand, the Ravens come into Week 11 with the top ranked fantasy defense against quarterbacks. That's trouble by itself. But on the other, A.J. Green—Dalton's top target and the only player who can deep on the Ravens secondary—could potentially miss the game with a knee injury.

QB Josh Freeman, Buccaneers

Your decision to start Freeman should be based solely on your opinion of the Packers defense. We know what we're getting from Freeman; he's been largely average for all of 2011. I think the Packers have turned a page on defense, and there isn't the kind of mismatches from the Bucs' side that makes me think they can put up big numbers.

RB Ryan Grant, Packers

Grant missed Wednesday's practice to get stitches on his lacerated knee, but that's the reason you want him riding your pine. While he's getting every start at running back on a high-powered offense, James Starks is the man when it comes to the Packers backfield. Don't fall for the charade of Grant starting.

RB Roy Helu, Redskins

Let's face it, no one can fully understand Mike Shanahan and his week-to-week plans at running back. Helu appeared to be the answer there after he was productive two weeks ago. Against the Dolphins last weekend, Helu only saw nine touches. Are you going to play the guessing wheel game again with Helu?

WR Eric Decker, Broncos

Decker has caught touchdown passes in three straight weeks, but it's hard to get over the fact that the Broncos completed just two passes last week. With Darrelle Revis and the Jets coming to Denver on Thursday, the Broncos passing game produces even less confidence. If Revis is placed on Decker full time tomorrow, it's possible the Broncos top receiver won't receive one target.

WR Steve Johnson, Bills

The fall from grace by quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has really hurt Johnson's numbers of late, and he's failed to crack 100 yards or find the end zone in each of the last three weeks. Johnson now faces a Dolphins defense that has slowly progressed in the passing game. To make matters worse, Johnson has a shoulder injury that will likely make him a game-time decision.
