Hope Solo DWTS: Soccer Star's Exit from Show Is Blessing in Disguise

The moment that sports fans around the world have dreaded finally happened on Tuesday night: Hope Solo, the United States soccer star, was eliminated from the competition on "Dancing With the Stars." She and her partner, Maks Chmerkovskiy can turn their attention and attitude to other things. 

Solo has always been an outspoken soccer player. She is not one to mince words, regardless of the situation. That attitude serves her well on the field, but it did not do her any favors on the reality show.

In fact, Solo's attitude seemed to rub off on Chmerkovskiy because he was often confrontational with the judges, and there was some controversy between him and Len Goodman about the scores that they were getting. 

Even on Monday, Solo showed a little attitude when she and Chmerkovskiy were given the lowest scores by the judges.

In a video recap of Monday's performances, Solo, 30, complained about her scores: "Sevens? The same thing I got in week one. Kiss my booty," she said, adding, "The scores at this point, the judges at this point mean nothing." The pair were also heard swearing about the judges as they awaited their second set of scores: "F--- 'em," they said, with Solo also tossing in that she didn't even want to look at the panel.

Solo's appearance on the show did more harm than good to her reputation and her standing with a mainstream audience. She came off as cocky, brash and confrontational. All those attributes serve her well playing soccer, but not dancing on a national television show. 

The end of Solo's run is nothing but positive for her. She can get back to playing soccer and leading the US women to championships and gold medals and all sorts of other honors, because that is what she does best. 

"Dancing With the Stars" was a fun experiment for Solo, but it was not the career breakthrough that she was hoping for. 

Solo's attitude and arrogance does not work on a television show, especially an unscripted television show. She needs to stay on the soccer field because that is, for lack of a better term, where her bread gets buttered. 

Sports fans love to root for her because of her frankness on the field. Middle-aged women love to boo her because she is a poor sport on their television show.
