Week 12 College Football Picks: How Will Remaining Undefeated Teams Fare?
And then there were three. The number of undefeated teams has continued to shrink with each passing week as teams fall victim to upstart conference foes. If the remaining unbeaten squads want to maintain their BCS standing, they'll need to hold serve in Week 12.
No. 1 LSU Tigers
It's nice to see the voters unanimously name LSU as the nation's top team because that's exactly what they are. Too often a rogue group of voters will put another team atop their ballots just to make some type of irrelevant statement.
The Tigers knocked off Oregon in Week 1 and Alabama a few weeks ago, proving they are a versatile team that can handle a shootout or defensive battle. Ole Miss is having a disappointing season and lost to Louisiana Tech last week. The Rebels won't provide much resistance.
Prediction: Tigers 45, Rebels 14
No. 2 Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State has beaten every unranked team its played by at least 21 points, which doesn't bode well for Iowa State in Week 12. It's nice to see Cowboys quarterback Brandon Weeden is finally starting to get some Heisman hype following Andrew Luck's loss last week.
Weeden is one-third of the Cowboys' dominant offensive triumvirate along with Joseph Randle and Justin Blackmon. The Cyclones were barely able to squeak by a weak Kansas team in their last outing, so it's hard to imagine a major upset here.
Prediction: Cowboys 52, Cyclones 21
No. 11 Houston Cougars
Houston didn't get any love from the BCS despite another blowout win last week against Tulane. The Cougars were ranked behind a one-loss Boise State squad, which was a big blow to their at-large BCS dreams. However, they must continue to fight.
Southern Methodist is the opponent this week. The Mustangs just suffered a loss to Navy and have lost three of their past four contests. Houston has to be cautious, though, because SMU did knock off TCU earlier in the season. It won't be easy, but the Cougars should prevail.
Prediction: Cougars 38, Mustangs 28
