BCS Rankings 2011: Elite Teams That Will Win in Blowout Fashion

Tim DanielsNov 16, 2011

It's a point in the season where the nation's elite teams can't afford to leave any doubt against inferior squads. Everybody is trying to earn style points from the voters in order to help them move up or maintain their spot in the rankings for another week.

Here are three elite teams that will win easily in Week 12.

No. 1 LSU Tigers

The unanimous top team in the country travels to Mississippi to take on Ole Miss, which lost to Louisiana Tech by 20 points last week. The Rebels haven't won a conference game and their only wins came against Southern Illinois and Fresno State.

That should make for an easy week for the Tigers. Their offense got back on track versus Western Kentucky after a shaky performance against Alabama's stout defense and should have no trouble rolling up at least 40 points again.

Prediction: LSU by 31

No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama doesn't have another marquee game on its schedule to help solidify standing. That means the Tide will need to destroy Georgia Southern to make sure voters don't have another team leapfrog them in next week's rankings.

The Crimson Tide haven't allowed an opponent to score in double digits since early October and no team has scored more than 14 points. While that doesn't always lead to the most exciting games, it has put the Tide in the national title hunt and that's all they care about.

Prediction: Alabama by 45

No. 8 Virginia Tech Hokies

Virginia Tech is on a collision course with Clemson in the ACC Championship Game, but first it must take care of business against North Carolina. The Tar Heels lost to in-state rival NC State last week and has tasted defeat in three of their past four games.

The only player the Hokies have to worry about is running back Giovani Bernard. Otherwise, it should be pretty calm sailing on Thursday. Logan Thomas and David Wilson are one of the nation's most underrated offensive duos and should be able to show that off in a big way.

Prediction: Virginia Tech by 17
