Michael Vick: Philadelphia Eagles QB Is Smartly Spending New Contract Money

Alex KayNov 16, 2011

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is reportedly spending a "sick" amount of money, according to TMZ.com.

Because Vick successfully filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection back in July of 2008, he now has to submit financial documents to the bankruptcy court, and those are obtainable by the public.

Of course, TMZ got its hands on them and decided to make it some sort of negative story, criticizing the polarizing athlete even though he’s done nothing wrong.

Here’s what the TMZ report found.

“From July-Sept., 2011, Vick earned $11,781,848.68.  Between July-Sept., 2011, Vick spent $6,636,805.73.

"Of that, $47,500 went to alimony and child support.  And the dreaded lawyers and accountants got $1,372,070 for bankruptcy services.  Vick's living expenses, not including his mortgage, are $73,000.

"Oh yeah, the whole government thing—$4,873,290.91 in taxes. Tea anyone?”

They are dead wrong to criticize him for how much money he has and what he is spending it on.

So Vick made nearly $12 million over three months this year—it makes sense considering he inked a six-year, $100 million deal with the Eagles and got a $7 million signing bonus along with it.

And Vick spent around $50,000 on child support and alimony, which is a lot of money to most Americans but is something that needs to be paid.

A little over $1.3 million on lawyers and accountants makes sense for someone who has been in so much legal trouble early in his career and is just getting his life back on track.

Living expenses of just $73,000 over three months for a guy making way more than that?

There is nothing wrong with that.

Sure, Vick can’t keep spending like that forever, but he is still a young man who was just released from prison a few short years ago and has the right to treat himself for his hard work and success.

And then nearly $5 million in taxes? Unfortunately that’s how the government runs. Can’t fault the man for paying them.
