Fantasy Football Week 11: Who's Hot, Who's Not at the QB Position
Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and Tom Brady of the New England Patriots lead the list of hot quarterbacks poised to lead you into your fantasy league playoffs.
On the other hand, if you own Michael Vick or Ryan Fitzpatrick, you are probably looking to make a quick change.
In addition, key injuries to Matt Schaub, Matt Cassel and Ben Roethlisberger might cause a thinning of the ranks, so the quarterback position is front and center in the minds of fantasy league managers this week.
Tom Brady: Hot
1 of 10Tom Brady of the New England Patriots is back to playing like, well, Tom Brady.
In the past four games he has thrown nine touchdown passes against four interceptions. In both of the last two games, he threw for over 300 yards.
The remainder of the schedule is pretty easy for the Patriots. The next three games are against the Chiefs, Colts and Eagles. So if you own Tom Brady, you are golden for the playoff push.
Joe Flacco: Not
2 of 10Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens had a quarterback rating of 94 for the 2010 season. So far this season, his rating is a 76 in quite a decline.
In the past four games, Flacco has had three touchdown passes against three interceptions. In two of those games, he had 300 or more passing yards. The problem for the Ravens is throwing a touchdown pass in the red zone.
Maybe you just want to keep Flacco on ice for the next two weeks, and then bring him out for Week 14 for the first week of your playoffs. The Ravens get the Colts that week.
Aaron Rodgers: Hot
3 of 10Can anyone stop Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers? It doesn't look like this will happen anytime soon.
In his last four games, Rodgers has an awesome quarterback rating of 142. He has thrown 14 touchdowns and only one interception. These numbers should continue in this week's home game against the Tampa Bay Bucs. He doesn't rely just on one or two receivers. Four players have four or more touchdowns and 350 or more receiving yards.
The one area of concern here would be the regular pressure that Rodgers has been facing. Recently he has been sacked three or four times per game.
With the Thanksgiving game coming up with the thugs also known as the Detroit Lions, the Packers should be working on their protection schemes.
Michael Vick: Not
4 of 10Last year Michael Vick of the Philadelphia Eagles helped a lot of managers, including me, win their fantasy leagues. What a difference a year makes.
In 2010 Vick had nine rushing touchdowns. So far this year he has none. Over the past four games, he has only thrown three touchdowns versus four interceptions.
The Eagles have done a dismal job in protecting Vick. He seems to take a hit on every other play. He has suffered a hand injury, a concussion and now two broken ribs. It's doubtful that he will play against the New York Giants this week.
His favorite receiver, Jeremy Maclin, is injured as well. His other favorite receiver, DeSean Jackson, is moping around, oversleeping and avoiding hits because he did not get the contract extension he wanted.
If you own Vick, I hope you have a suitable replacement.
Tony Romo: Hot
5 of 10Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys has recovered from the 67 quarterback rating in the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Since then he has thrown for five touchdowns with no interceptions, very un-Romo numbers. In this week's win against the Buffalo Bills, he completed 23 of 26 passes.
The next three games are against the Redskins, Dolphins and Cardinals, who have a combined record of 8-19. Felix Jones is expected to return to the lineup this week. So Romo has a good shot at keeping this rolling.
Ryan Fitzpatrick: Not
6 of 10The Buffalo Bills got off to a quick 5-1 start and Ryan Fitzpatrick was the AFC Offensive Player of the Month in September.
But more recently the wheels have started to fall off the bus. They have lost three of the last four games and looked helpless against the Dallas Cowboys last week.
During the last four games, Fitzpatrick has two more interceptions (eight) than he does touchdown passes (six). I think I would park him on the bench for the next two road games against the Dolphins and Jets, just to see what solutions the team might be able to implement.
Drew Brees: Hot
7 of 10Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints has completed 75 percent of his passes over the last four games. He has thrown 10 touchdown passes versus only three interceptions. OK, five of those touchdown passes came against the Indianapolis Colts, but they all count just the same.
Brees has the luxury of many offensive weapons. Five players have 30 or more pass receptions, and five players have 350 or more receiving yards. Jimmy Graham leads all tight ends in both receptions and yardage.
If you own Brees, only during his bye week do you have to think about who to start at quarterback.
Josh Freeman: Not
8 of 10It has been a rough stretch for Josh Freeman and the Tampa Bay Bucs. And with upcoming road games against the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans, things might not change for a while either.
Freeman threw four interceptions against the Chicago Bears and three against the Houston Texans during the Bucs' three-game losing streak.
Freeman's sprained thumb and numerous drops by Mike Williams are not helping. He should not be in your starting lineup this week against the Packers.
Matt Ryan: Hot
9 of 10Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons threw for 351 yards this week against the New Orleans Saints. It is unfortunate that a bad decision by the head coach cost the Falcons the game.
During the last four weeks, Ryan has thrown seven touchdowns versus four interceptions.
With games against Carolina and Jacksonville in the first two weeks of the fantasy playoffs, Ryan could propel you into your league championship game.
John Beck: Not
10 of 10Let's give the Washington Redskins' John Beck the benefit of the doubt and say that he is an improvement over Rex Grossman.
However, two touchdown passes in the four games he has played does not cut it as a fantasy quarterback. If he is anywhere but the waiver wire in your league, then someone is not paying attention.
