NFL Power Rankings: Gauging the Week's Biggest Fallers

John RozumNov 15, 2011

Week 11 in pro football will be no exception to some teams falling in the power rankings. And on a higher note, falling in the playoff picture.

To that end, here are three teams who take the biggest plunge after this week.

Cincinnati Bengals (6-3)

Despite the Ravens looking like posers after their road loss to Seattle, Baltimore is notorious for bouncing back after a loss, especially at home. Cincinnati however, lost last week at home to Pittsburgh and are now just 1-1 in the division.

With games remaining against the Ravens (twice) and the Steelers in Pittsburgh, this young Bengals team will learn quick how difficult it is to win within your own division. Plus, having an offense that gains just over 300 yards per game won't beat the Ravens anywhere.

Cincinnati will play Baltimore well however, because they too have a respectable defense. But the home loss to Pittsburgh proved they're still a few steps back. That said, losing to Baltimore won't dash their playoff hopes as they still get the Ravens at home.

Nonetheless, the Bengals still have a lot to prove so don't be surprised when they drop a few spots next week.

Buffalo Bills (5-4)

The Buffalo Bills are in the same boat as the Bengals but on the other end. Buffalo has an offense that can keep pace with almost anyone in the NFL however, their defense allows just as much if not more points.

Last week perhaps, exploited Buffalo the most in their 44-7 road loss to Dallas. The Bills obviously struggle on the road, can't move the ball against a defense that knows how to stop the run and has no idea how to win unless the defense forces turnovers.

Not only did Dallas not turn the ball over, but they forced four turnovers on Buffalo. It's unfortunate, but the Bills clearly need to work on strictly forcing punts and controlling the clock offensively because their WRs aren't explosive as most think. If you can't win on the road, there's no chance of playing in the postseason.

In Week 11 Buffalo visits a confident Dolphins team playing the spoiler role. Using the Bills' last six games as evidence (2-4), winning this road game in Miami won't happen because Buffalo is beginning to lose confidence and lacks the talent to play at a high level of consistency.

Tennessee Titans (5-4)

Defeating the Carolina Panthers on the road was a surprise coming from the Titans. Then again, it's not shocking either because Tennessee did best the Ravens earlier this season, so they've proven to be a formidable opponent when things start clicking.

Which happens to be the problem. Currently the Titans rank dead last in rush offense and No. 22 in rush defense. However, they bested the Panthers because, well, it's the Panthers who still have no idea how to win and are lacking confidence despite playing much better than last year.

This week the Titans play at Atlanta who not only has a more threatening offense, but a much better defense than Carolina. Atlanta is a team that held Green Bay to just 25 points, so it's safe to say Tennessee won't move the ball much.

Additionally, the Titans will significantly drop as they can't win against superior opponents on a consistent basis whether it's at home or on the road. For Tennessee to prove they're playoff worthy, defeating the Falcons in Atlanta is a must. Otherwise, 2011 will be just as disappointing as their Week 1 loss to Jacksonville.
