Manny Pacquiao: Bob Arum Terrified to Put Pac-Man Up Against Floyd Mayweather

Alex KayNov 15, 2011

Bob Arum is scared of sending Manny Pacquiao up against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

It’s completely obvious and Mayweather’s camp can’t even get him to talk about a potential fight between the two best boxers on the planet right now.

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer spoke with ESPN.com about how they attempted to get in touch with Pacquiao’s people to negotiate a fight.

"We have been informed that Bob Arum is not interested in pursuing a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao at this time," Schaefer said.

Arum knows that Mayweather would win and would rather stick his man against Juan Manuel Marquez for a ridiculous fourth time than have him humiliated against Mayweather in what would possibly be the most-watched and highest-grossing fight of all time.

He even confirmed this much himself, saying:

"

We are pursuing a fourth fight with Marquez. As far as doing anything definitively, we aren't ready to do anything definitively. When we are ready to make a determination of what we are going to do, we will do it. We are not going to do this in the press. We will do what is in the best interest of ourselves and our client and make a decision when it's time to. If we decide we want to do a rematch with Marquez, there is no reason to sit down with Mayweather.

"

That’s just ridiculous.

No one wants to watch another boring fight that Marquez easily could have won.

Pacquiao won those battles two out of the three times and drew in the first. We don’t need to see him spend the last years of his prime going against an opponent he has beaten and has nothing more to prove against.

Mayweather and Pacquiao needs to happen while both fighters are in their prime, not in a few years when they are both scrambling to get one last big paycheck.

Mayweather is going to fight on May 5 at the MGM in Las Vegas. Hopefully Arum changes his opinion on protecting Pacquiao from him and lets the two greatest go at it on that date.
