NFL Power Rankings: Identifying the League's Biggest Posers

John RozumNov 15, 2011

Being a poser can be somewhat related to being overrated in sports. As for football, when there's less room for error it becomes even more evident when teams don't win games they're suppose to win.

That said, here are three posers and ironically enough, all are in the AFC.

Baltimore Ravens (6-3)

The Ravens may have a Top 10 defense, but when their offense struggles in passing and/or rushing, Baltimore is very beatable. They obviously brought their A-game to the Steelers, but if you wanna win a championship, the A-game is a must each week.

And with road losses to Tennessee, Jacksonville and now Seattle, how can we expect the Ravens to win in the postseason when the stakes are higher? By not playing consistently well on the road they're just exploiting themselves for an upset later on.

Defenses now know that shutting down Ray Rice is the key to slowing their offense, and as long as you don't turn the ball over, their defense can only do so much.

New York Jets (5-4)

Swept by the Patriots this season, the Jets had the AFC East lead in front of them and they squandered off the opportunity in Week 10. Now, the Jets are fighting for their playoff lives and need some help to boot.

However, without a threatening pass or rush offense, opposing defenses are going to feast on causing turnovers and forcing punts. In addition, the pass defense is all New York can hang their hat on right now because the rush defense is mediocre at best.

Although the schedule appears to be somewhat favorable, we have to remember that the Jets are not an elite team, so they'll be fortunate to finish 9-7.

San Diego Chargers (4-5)

Rewind to Week 6 and we see a 4-1 Chargers team on their bye week planning to visit the Jets in The Big Apple and get a much needed road win that could propel them even further atop the AFC West.

Long story short, the Bolts were blanked in the second half of that game, lost 27-21 and are now 4-5, heading nowhere fast. Sure they're still tied for second place in the AFC West at 4-5, but San Diego still has to play Denver at home—who's learning how to win on the road—the Raiders in Oakland, as well as the Bears, Jaguars and Lions all on the road.

Now include the interception prone Philip Rivers and their uncharacteristically slow starting offense, and the Chargers will be lucky to finish 2011 with a 7-9 record. Had they began 1-4 and finished 7-9, well, that's a positive. But starting 4-1 and potentially going 3-8 thereafter is abysmal.
