WWE Survivor Series 2011: Twitter Reaction to The Rock's Survivor Series Return

Mike ChiariNov 15, 2011

The Rock finally made his return to WWE television on Monday's three-hour edition of RAW, and he certainly didn't disappoint. As is always the case, The Rock created some magic on the microphone in an effort to get the WWE Universe pumped for Survivor Series.

He made his first appearance of the night during Mick Foley's tribute to John Cena in a "This Is Your Life" segment that was quite similar to what Foley did for The Rock years earlier. The Rock simply stepped into the ring and delivered a Rock Bottom to his former tag-team partner.

That wasn't it for The Rock, though, as he returned to the ring and delivered a thunderous promo before a raucous Boston crowd. In typical Rock fashion, he whipped the audience into a frenzy and got the phrase "boots to asses" trending on Twitter within minutes of saying it.

The Rock went on to have a confrontation with The Miz and R-Truth, who will be the opponents of he and his partner John Cena at Survivor Series on Sunday. The stare down caused Cena to get involved as the two prospective partners traded verbal jabs.

At one point The Rock got another phrase trending when he said he was going to kick "Cena's lady parts." Predictably, the conversation eventually turned into a brawl as The Rock beat down and Rock Bottomed R-Truth.

Then, when Cena has The Miz up for the Attitude Adjustment, The Rock pulled him down and delivered a huge Rock Bottom before exiting the ring. The finish was an excellent prelude to Survivor Series as it highlighted the fact that there is still plenty of dissention between The Rock and Cena.

Despite what seemed to be a successful return for The Rock, not everyone is impressed. The Rock should be able to steal the show at Survivor Series, but the lack of build in terms of the rest of the card has some fans turned off.

It is certainly possible that The Rock's return at Survivor Series is being overhyped, but there is absolutely no question that he is generating interest. The WWE knew that was going to be the case, so it made a great decision by furthering the Rock/Cena storyline for WrestleMania while garnering pay-per-view buys in the present.

Whether you think The Rock returning at Survivor Series is jumping the shark or not, it is fair to say that The Rock's presence automatically makes the product that much better.
