Al Davis: Could There Be a Method to This Madness?

Raider Card AddictDec 17, 2008

From the left, right, and center, it seems the consensus is clear: Al Davis needs to go. Either via death, resignation, or somehow forced against his will. His best days are behind him.

One item that came out of the rumor mill has a few people terrified and wondering if it means that this man has gone off the deep end.

Recently there was an article regarding the NFL and Las Vegas, and how the city is looking for a sports franchise. After all, there is a population base there and they did well for the NBA All-Star game.

The NFL has pretty much turned up its nose at the idea of relocating a franchise to Las Vegas. But when has Al Davis ever followed the trend of the NFL?

Think back to the early 1980s when the Raiders' came to Oakland. Davis wanted to move the club, and the owners told him "No." So, Al being Al, moved the Raiders.

The NFL was furious and the fans felt betrayed. It was an ugly situation for everyone involved.

A little more than a decade later Davis—ever the wanderer—decided to move again, this time back to Oakland, after several other venues fell through.

Also, Davis decided to sue the NFL for meddling in his attempt for a stadium deal.

Some wonder if the Raiders would have been in Hollywood Park, Fremont, or who knows...if Mexico would have been able to strike a deal, they may have become the first team south of the border.

Then came along Las Vegas. They have a lot of money.

The Raiders, meanwhile, continue to play in a smaller stadium, with conditions that are minimal by the NFL's standards. Even Goodell scoffed at the idea of the Raiders' sharing a stadium with the 49ers.

But what if a city like Las Vegas offered Davis a modern, fully functional stadium? Could the old man thumb his nose at the new commish?

To be honest, a lot of the fans have had it with Davis and the traveling show. It also doesn't help matters that the team is in a downward spiral and needs something to build upon.

A stunt like this could be the beginning of full blown anarchy, something not seen in Raider nation in almost 30 years.

Maybe it would also force Goodell to finally act against Davis and give Raiders fans their team back.
