Terrell Owens: Mentally Insane or Mad Genius?
The circus that is Dallas's most gifted player continues.
Terrell Owens is upset that Tony Romo is giving the ball to Jason Witten. Neither Witten nor Romo should be surprised this Christmas when they receive autographed copies of Little T Learns to Share, penned by T.O. in 2006.
But this is just the latest bit of controversy that has me wondering, is T.O. mentally insane...or a mad genius?

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
T.O. recently blamed the latest stunt on the reporters of ESPN, stating that his jealousy of the Romo/Witten bond was completely fabricated. And since all playmakers want the ball, T.O. looks to be in denial.
But then T.O. went on to say how these stories have hurt his marketability. How sponsors avoid him because of these off-field antics. So maybe he's simply trying to get a shoe deal, but he's simply going the wrong way about it.
There's no avoiding the old saying "actions speak louder then words," so what are T.O.'s actions really telling us?
Homeboy is Crazy
Forget football, he needs to be committed for his own good. His problems started from day one.
Late in the '03 season, T.O. was questioned about an arm band that he was wearing, which stated that he was "the answer." Anyone who knows sports understand that title belongs to Allen Iverson. But maybe he just wanted to be someone else for a day.
Despite being drafted and playing alongside his idol Jerry Rice, Owens was not happy with playing in San Francisco. He blamed all his woes on Jeff Garcia, even calling him gay, and if you've seen Garcia's wife, then you know she could turn any gay man straight. Just another hallucination by Owens.
All this seems trivial, and it is, until you look at what it led up to. The above may be reaching, but tell me if these seem like actions of a sane man.
T.O. blames the media for him being suspended after calling out Donovan McNabb. Then he conducted an interview from his driveway where he proceeded to do sit ups and tried to convince us he was just fine.
T.O. spits in Donte Hall's face. Pushing off, grabbing jerseys, and even throwing your opponent to the grown, all viable options for an upset player in a contact sport. But a grown man spitting in another's face? There's something seriously wrong with that.
T.O. "accidentally" overdoses on Hydrocodone. How do you accidentally stuff a bunch of pain killers down your throat? I'm not trying to mock the man, it's evident that this was a huge cry for help.
After the Cowboy's playoff loss to the Giants, T.O. began to weep like no other after the media blamed the loss on Tony Romo. Now I understand being dedicated to your team...but crying? Owens is definitely unstable.
The Marketing Genius
Owens went from a college nobody to household name. It's mostly due to his on-field work, but he separates himself from everyone else by his off-field antics.
While some may see his 2005 driveway scene as looney, it could be seen as lucrative. Owens showed that he has a personality and a sense of humor. What do you think all those end zone celebrations are for. On top of hyping the crowd and messing with his opponents, he's also marketing himself.
During the preseason, the Cowboys were featured on Hard Knocks. On the show, he was seen handing out his brand new t-shirts with the slogan: I love me, some me.
Is just one of the catchy slogans...or is it his life's mission statement?
And if you visit his official website, you can find multiple books, t-shirts, wristbands and more for sale. All of which will make you think twice about his off-field antics.
So maybe he's not crazy. Maybe he's a marketing genius.
What do you think?
