Janoris Jenkins of Florida Is the Best Player You've Never Heard of

Evan WDec 16, 2008

If you watchedย the Soak at the Doak this year between Florida and Florida State,ย Number 29 keptย making plays andย showingย up on yourย TVย throughout the whole game. Mostย college football fans and even some Gator fans didnโ€™t know who thisย was.

This kid isย Janoris Jenkins, a true freshman out of Pahokee (FL). Jenkins, who plays cornerback, is as naturally giftedย as a true freshman defensive back comes.

Jenkins who has had the startingย cornerback spot since the beginning of the season has done nothing but make plays,ย whetherย it was that jaw jarring hit that forced a crucial fumble at the beginning of the Tennessee game, or helping shut down the SEC's top receiver and future first round pick Julio Jones in the SEC Championship he has been nothing short of spectacular.ย

Jenkins who is known for being a physical jam up corner has recorded 34 tackles, 11 pass break up,ย and 3 interceptions. But beyond his natural physical build, what sticks out most is his ability to be comfortable when the ball is in the air. He has aย knack for being around the ball, and is theย true definition of a defensive playmaker.

The gators and Defensive Coordinator Charlie Strong need big things out of this true freshman as they expect him to help shutย downย Heisman Winnerย Sam Bradford. With a good game from Jenkinsย hopefullyย the gatorsย will bring back another title, andย everyone will knowย the name ofย number 29.
