BCS Rankings: Georgia Bulldogs and Teams with BCS Dreams

The final BCS Standings are a long way away. It’s why a team like the Georgia Bulldogs has a phenomenal chance at finding their way into a BCS bowl game.  

But, Georgia, currently at No. 14 in the BCS Standings at 8-2, has four teams ahead of them in the last BCS Standings. How in the world can they leap these teams, as one of the two representatives from the SEC?  

It’s really easy when you take a look at the Bulldogs schedule. They have two games remaining at home against Kentucky and on the road against Georgia Tech. Both games are easy victories for this Bulldogs team, and both victories will lead them to the Georgia Dome to play for the SEC championship.  

There, the Bulldogs pull the upset. That’s right, I said it, the Bulldogs pull the upset by beating LSU in front of the Georgia fans in the dome to win the SEC championship.  

However, Georgia is just one of two other teams that have a great chance at crashing the BCS. As these teams are just like Georgia, as they are completely off everyone's radar. 

Virginia Cavaliers  

As of right now, the 7-3 Virginia Cavaliers, who are unranked in any of the polls, have a great chance of upsetting Virginia Tech in the ACC Coastal division. Virginia will win its final two games of the season, at Florida State and against Virginia Tech.  

Then the Cavaliers go into the ACC championship game against a Clemson team that they have yet to face this year. In the game they stop Tajh Boyd, thus killing any chance for Clemson to get its offense going.  

The end result will be a monumental upset for Virginia, sending it potentially to the Fed-Ex Orange Bowl, against this Big East champion.

Pittsburgh Panthers 

Oh yeah, that’s right, the 5-5 Pittsburgh Panthers have a small chance, but still a chance at winning the Big East conference. 

At 5-5, Pitt sits behind four teams. However, the Panthers have a win over Louisville, and have a game coming up against West Virginia. That moves them up two spots right there.  

You can throw in Rutgers losing its final game on the road against Connecticut. A loss will vault Pitt above the Scarlet Knights.  

And the coup de grâce will be Cincinnati, with a two-game lead with three games left to play, suffering the same fate that Pitt suffered last year. The Bearcats choke away their Big East lead, as they lose to Rutgers and either to Syracuse or Connecticut. 

Three teams that either you know some about, little about, or know nothing about, will all make a BCS bowl game this year.
