Week 11 Waiver Wire: Kickers and Defenses to Bring Your Team to Victory
The most overlooked fantasy positions are those that can help the most. For instance those who combined the Bears defense with Saints kicker John Kasay scored a giant 52 fantasy points. Which can easily propel you to a victory.
So which kickers and defenses will excel this week? There are some favorable matchups for defense's and kickers are hit and miss but close games more often than naught produce big kicking weeks.
If you're looking for a kicker and defense to pick up for a bye week or for lack of production, here are some that will aid you to victory.
1. Robbie Gould: Chicago Bears K
1 of 7Robbie Gould is the fifth rated fantasy kicker and only taken in 40 percent of leagues. The Bears offense, and defense for that matter, scored a lot of points and will continue to do so which will give Gould a lot of chances at field goals and extra points.
The Bears defense is what has given Gould the opportunity to be a top five kicker because of the great field position they have given the Bears all year, putting them in to field goal range at the beginning of drives at least a few times a game.
If he's available in your league you should pick him up for the long haul.
2. Dan Carpenter: Miami Dolphins K
2 of 7The Dolphins have been rising offensively the past few weeks and so has the stock of the once all-pro kicker. With the increase in offense and some consistency the past few weeks, Carpenter will be back to getting a few attempts per week and a maybe an extra point or two.
He will be good for a bye week but at this point you should have a kicker better than him for the long haul. Pick him up if you have an injured kicker or your kicker is on bye week.
3. Mike Nugent: Cincinnati Bengals K
3 of 7The Bengals offense has increased it's prodcution through the year as rookies Andy Dalton and AJ Green have gained experience which has led to Mike Nugent receiving a good amount of XP and field-goal attempts.
The offense is only getting better and Nugent's production should go up more and more as the season moves onward. Pick him up for the long haul if your kicker has been under performing or injured, he is available in nine out of 10 leagues so picking him up shouldn't be a problem.
4. Cincinnati Bengals
4 of 7The Bengals are currently the seventh ranked defense and available in about half of leagues, they should be picked up immediately and have been performing well all year.
They have forced a turnover in all but one game this season and the trend will continue and the Bengals will score you quite a few points. They have had three or more sacks four times this year and have had four or five sacks three of those times.
They are also a young defense and will continue to get better as the season goes on. Pick them up if you need them for a bye week and consider making them your regular defense.
5. Tennessee Titans
5 of 7A defense that has been above average this year, the Titans defense is a good option while your team is on bye week or has been under performing lately.
The defense averages an interception a game and is around the middle of most defensive statistic rankings. They have at least four favorable matchups left including the Colts, Jaguars, Tampa Bay and a now struggling Buffalo Bills team.
If they can maximize on those game's then the Titans are worth a bench spot and a play in those weeks.
6. New England Patriots
6 of 7Although statistically one of the worst defenses in the NFL, the Patriots did very well fantasy wise against the Jets. The Pats defense racked up 18 points with five sacks, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a interception return for a touchdown.
A great week for a team that has mightily struggled this year.
They now have an extra day of rest and face the struggling Kansas City Chiefs at home. Matt Cassel has been having real problems and the Patriots will capitalize on that and come away with a few interceptions next week.
Even if the Chiefs go with backup Tyler Palko or rookie Ricky Stanzi because of a late Cassel injury, the Patriots will then take even more advantage of the Chiefs and come away with at least 12 fantasy points.
7. St. Louis Rams
7 of 7The St. Louis Rams defense has gotten better and scored no less than eight points in three weeks with a high of 17 and have a favorable game against the Seattle Seahawks, who will once again struggle after coming off a big win against Baltimore.
The Rams defense struggled early in the season but has figured a few things out and the defensive line is producing at a good level now, when it was nonexistent fantasy wise at the beginning of the season.
The Rams are a good pick up for Week 11 and 12, but that's the only good they should do you and only expect them to hold for the two week stretch against Seattle and Arizona before they go back to giving up massive amounts of points and being a bad fantasy defense.
Pick up the St. Louis Rams for a defense that can help in the short term.
